I'm with you on this. Park and e-brake should be enough. Or even just park.

When I start my truck in the morning before scraping the ice off the windows I push the brake with one hand and reach up with the other to press the start buttion. So at least I don't have to climb in to just climb back out.

I'm trying to remember a recent vehicle I've driven that didn't require foot on brake to start and am coming up dry.

What recent model year still works like this?

My work truck (Ford F150-2014) doesn't require a foot on the brake. Just in Park

When you gonna pop out that Lexus badge and put a Toyota one in? Or if you could customize, a Toyota Truck one, that would be sic.

Thanks. My 02 4runner might not have, but it's gone and everything I've had the past few years seems to have required it.

Haven't bothered. The smartkey sits in an interior pocket in my wallet and virtually never sees light of day.

I'm OCD uniformity, it would bug me just knowing it's not right. But kudos to you man. Wish I had the extra $$$ to do this.

I had a 2011 Armada SL with keyless ignition. All you had to do was turn the switch. It was made like a key switch, but you didn't need a key. My 2004 Maxima has keyless, but it's pushbutton and you do have to step on the brake. I hate when I get into my 2011 Honda CRZ, sit, and then realize I have to dig in my pocket to get the key . . .

Only thing I don't like is the 4wheel drive switch is almost identical in size shape (and right next to it) and I've found myself mashing it trying to get the truck started before I look down and realize my mistake...

Using a key feels so archaic/primitive since both my wifes SantaFe LTD and my Taco both have push button.

Understandable. Compare to the GM twins though and the 4WD dial you can hit with your knee getting in and out of the truck ... and no indication except the switch that you've engage 4WD until you feel it start binding.

I'm sure my chivalrous nature will fade in time, I find it frustrating that the door handle sensor to unlock the door doesn't work on the passenger side. When I try to open the door for the fiancée I rattle the handle a couple times, reach into the pocket, hit the unlock button and continue...
In my head I'm thinking 'Smooth Romeo, real smooth'

Hopefully it won't fade. 17 years in and I still often open/hold the door for my wife. It pays dividends.

Yes, putting the sensor only on the driver door is dumb. The ECU can handle two doors. Hoping that's remedied in 2018 and I might try a retrofit.

For now, I either hurry ahead to touch the driver door and walk around, or if I think of it early enough to allow for the inherent delay I'll bring up the SmartStart app on my watch and unlock the truck as we're walking toward it.

On a regular basis I practically rip the driver door handle off my wife's car when I forget it's not keyless. So used to just grabbing and going..

I also find myself trying to turn the nonexistent key to shut the Tacoma off after I've been driving her vehicle for extended periods of time.

It took me about the same amount of time to stop reaching for my keys to start it as it took to stop looking for a clutch pedal to step on after changing from a manual to automatic transmission.

He can get the passenger door to unlock when he places his hand in the driver door, but that doesn't solve the problem. He wants to open (not just unlock) the door for his fiancé. He'll need a sensor in the passenger door handle to do this without reaching in his pocket and hitting the unlock button twice.
