Swapped out my snow tires (265/70r17 Blizzaks) for 255/85r16 Toyo MTs on the stock wheels for a quick Moab trip.

Is the truck noticeably taller/higher with the 255/85/16s?

Yeah it's subtle, but you can tell when getting in and out of the truck. Maybe an inch or two taller.

Similar angle to the last picture but with the 265/70r17s:

Forgot to mention - I do have a little rubbing on the front mudflaps when compressed and turning. I'll probably remove those soon.

I agree it's very subtle. I had to remove the front mudflaps so I just removed them all. It looks better that way. Rock chips are inevitable.

Two week update on the Falkens. Had a 1' snowfall this week and they handled it like a champ! Drove a 30 mile loop in the snow covered back roads and on unmaintained forest roads and zero issues with traction. The stock TRD suspension is suprisingly good for now although the rear bottoms out easily. Road manners are really good, smooth and not too noisy. Steering is lighter. Power loss seems minimal to me. Two thumbs up!

Thanks for the follow up! How do they do when stopping or accelerating on hard pack snow?

Not much hardpack it was cleaned up pretty quickly around here. Stopping and starting on what I did drive on was surprisingly good.

    Hello everyone.

Posted this in the 3rd gen thread as well but figured I would help out since I took the risk on the tires.

I have a 2020 SR Access Cab, 4x4, Utility Package.

I plan on using it for overlanding to alaska/mexico and south america, and based on my experience with the Falken Wildpeak AT's previously, went with a set of

    255/85/r16 Wildpeak MT01s.

Paid roughly $850 shipped for a set of 4.

My truck is currently BONE STOCK, and in fact the rear is probably sitting a little lower because I have a ~100 lb rack and ~130 pounds of tires in the bed right now.

These tires fit PERFECTLY, pics below. Tech installed them no problem, on the STOCK steel wheels. I had ordered a set of 0 offset wheels from BB wheels because I thought I'd need them to clear the UCAs but the wheels that were sent didn't fit at all, and to my surprise the tires fit on the stock wheels. I have a very SLIGHT rub on the UCA at full lock with articulation. I didn't even hear or feel the rub, just noticed it when I looked at the UCA and saw a very small strip where the road salt had been rubbed off.

So this should hopefully put an end to the question of "will 255/85/r16s fit stock"

They fit, no rubbing on cab mount, frame, wheel wells, etc. No cutting needed.

Looks like you’ve had them in the snow! How do they do on road snow? Highly considering those tires but I do live in an area that gets snow

I’m in NH. Snow is a second language

Braking distance is higher than the stock all seasons, snow performance is average for a mud terrain tire

These tires were cheap and I LOVE Falken for their customer service and their all terrains have gotten me through trails that I had no right being on

these are fairly quiet initially. Louder and rougher than the stock Firestones but similar to an aggressive AT

They seem to clear snow out of the tread just as easily as mud and braking distance has increased a manageable amount

falken accomplished what they set out to do which is to make a livable MT tire

Thanks! Sounds like they may not be the best in the snow but with smart driving they are decent/good/acceptable in the snow?

Two other questions, were you able to fit a 255/85/16 spare under the truck? Was the extra tire approx 17lbs per tire noticeable on power/mpg?

Yes, actually they’ve been great in the snow, seem to clear slush and soft pack just like mud.
Ice and cold pavement braking are definitely increased.

I have a 4cyl and I honestly think the hate towards the 2.7 is ridiculous. It’s not a “dog”, it doesn’t need a tailwind to make it up a hill.

I’d say I have a 5-10% felt power loss on the truck. That’s it. I can still pass people and get up to 80 pretty quickly. I came from older trucks and commuter cars so this is perfectly fine for me. Also I believe it’s almost 27 lbs per tire. The 245/75r16 destination LE2s weigh roughly 32 lbs and the wild peaks are 59

what I will say is that this tire hasn’t measured much over 32.5” at any point. Even inflated and off the truck I don’t think it’s been 33” ever

Also, headed to the quarry and took some pictures of the fitment again with minor articulation. Still not rubbing on the UCA, frame, fender, or body mount.
again this is pretty minor flex, but should show that they won’t rub hitting speed bumps/potholes etc

    255/85 R16 Cooper STT Maxx's installed today!

No rubbing that I could force by turning and going up on my curb (I know it's not super high).

No noticeable difference in power (the taco is always a slug).

    Braking distance is slightly impacted.

They are noisier than stock but not that bad (was only up to 55 mph).

At very low speeds you (coming to a stop) you can feel the tread rumble.

What I noticed most was going around curves, at roughly 30-35 mph when I go into a curve - the truck feels like it's going to float off. I don't know a better to explain it.

Anyways - Those are my thoughts

Followed this thread a few weeks now and finally got a set of Toyo Open Country AT III's in 235/85-16 for my 2017 TRDOR long bed. My original Goodyear's still have a few thousand left on them so I'll run them this summer. They were getting kind of iffy on the snow that keeps coming here in PA. I couldn't get the Toyo in a 255 so the 235's will do. The truck rides quite well on them, a bit of whine but only a little more than the stock GY's made. Rolling resistance is way less then the stockers, speedometer is about one needle thickness off, showing 25 mph while the GPS indicates about 27 mph. No rubbing and a test in 10-12 inches of snow went great, The skinny tires dig right thru soft or hard packed snow.

    DSCF3832.jpg DSCF3833.jpg

Had to wait a few days to hose off the road salt from the snow storms.

The suspension is the next project as soon as spring gets here.

Nice! Does having 33” tires on the truck make it feel as though you had a small lift/leveled installed?

Short answer is yes. But however you come by your 1 inch lift (suspension of tires) - you won't really notice after a few minutes of driving.
