Put 255/85/16s on stock OR wheels and suspension

Does anyone have any definitive info on maximum offset one can run with this tire size? Anyone running 0 offset?

 

Stock height or lift? You should have no issues running a 0 offset. The stock rims on the OR are +25. I’m running -6 but I’d wager I’d still clear at 0.

What did you do for trimming? What tires?

I ask because I’m running -7 with 255/85r16 and I’ve got a bit o rubbin

edit: also running Geolandars which seem to run the tallest so I’m sure that doesn’t help

I had to trim a lot of my fender line. But just plastic stuff. No CMC and didn’t have to touch the pinch weld.

Is there a general consensus on which one of these tall mud terrains gets the best MPG between them?

And which ones would perform best in snow, all I am concerned about is MPG's and snow performance

I know muds dont do good in ice/snow already... or MPG just which ones do the "best" out of the main picks

 

You are asking the wrong questions.

In any case, some mud terrains advertise M&S to indicate they are decent in snow. My Dick Cepek Extreme Terrains (M&S) are comparable to the stock wrangler all terrains in snow.

Oh BTW there is at least one tall skinny that is a mountain snowflake all terrain: the toyo m55. I’m guessing it is the best tall skinny snow tire.

Was going to run this size with ST Maxx’s but they are much more expensive than the MT options.
To those who have ran MTs in this size on your daily can y’all share some experiences? Good/bad? Thanks in advance.

 

I'm running around with the Yokohama Geolandar's in this size and they are a really solid tire. They aren't *excessively* noisy, but they are definitely noisier than an AT, though not by a ton. I was expecting much more noise for the tread.

The caveat is that the Geolandar comes in at one of the tallest tires available in this size so I have a little rubbing with my wheel setup, but it's the equivalent of a -7 offset. I'm sure with a stock OR wheel you will be fine, and I have heard from others that they haven't had any rubbing aside from a couple of folks.

The ride is very comfortable and I don't notice the difference between these and the stock AT's as far as ride quality, but they are definitely on the heavier side so you will feel the difference. It's not horrendous, however, and if you expect the truck to drive like a truck and not a sports car then you should have no qualms.

I have a set of Dick Cepak extreme terrain LT255/85R16 and, while they are great off road, they are not great on the road. They are loud and have high rolling resistance. I knew that before I bought them, so I went with 2 sets of wheels and tires.

 

Interesting. Looking like I’ll just be saving for ST Maxxs and pray they come down below $300 a tire.

 

another option that has been discussed in this thread is the Mastercraft Courser CXT. This is the tire I am installing on my truck as soon as they are back in stock. Hopefully by March or April this year. I believe they should be available for $80 or more less than the Coopers.

 

Does anyone know anything about the FALKEN WILDPEAK M/T01? They are a little cheaper at $270. Next is the BFG KM3 at $277. I wish there were more options in this size.

 

Their own site's rating of the tires, I looked at them only because they were available in this size, really not much else out there right now. If you plan to spend a good amount if time off road they are a good tire. If you're just looking for this size tire for your on road truck (like me) it may be worth holding out for a while if you're able.

Well, just went to the toyo site and they do make a 255 version. 59lbs and E rated if that works I’m for you.

 

Thanks for the replies. I didn't know if anyone had a personal experience with them. They look like they are louder than BFG KM3. This is not a daily driver and I still have good Cooper tires on 31x10.5 R15. I would rather have an all terrain but those in this size are limited and more expensive. I'm not in a rush to get them. I am leaning to BFG KM3 but still looking.
