Put 255/85/16s on stock OR wheels and suspension

I should have just gone to my regular shop in the first place. They'd probably do the cmc for me if I really needed it. I just don't understand how 2mm non stuffed can cause that big of a change from everyone else.

 

Which wheels are you tunning again? 4runner TRD pros?

 

17x8 ultra crushers. +10 offset.

 

I thought the stock OR wheels were +0 offset? Plus other members might not have been running mudflaps, if that's all you're rubbing on.

Edit: Stock 2016 TRD Offroad wheels are +25mm offset.

 

Those poke out a little over 1" over stock, so I can definitely see how that would be an issue.

 

If they're the same as 2nd gens, they're +30mm

 

Did I screw my math up..

 

After using the power of the interwebs, the stock OR wheels on the 2016s are +25mm. You're out 15mm futher than stock, so a little over 1/2".

 

So I need the 25mm crushers?

 

I'm at work and can't see the screen shot. I'm basing this off second gen wheel specs, so I very well may be wrong. My old wheels were 7.5" wide with a +30mm offset.

You have to take into account the width of the wheel as well, which is where the other 1/2" comes from.

 

+25mm offset would keep you exactly at stock, which is where most here say they have little-to-no issues with rubbing.

 

Even though the rim is an extra inch wide?

 

I might be wrong, but I think just the tire width (255) and offset (+25mm) come into play here. The extra rim width shouldn't have an impact on clearance.

Edit: Your rim might get pushed out further due to its additional width, but tire width and offset define your tires position in the wheel well.

 

Well that's where I went wrong then. I assumed that the extra inch required an offset decrease of an inch. I'll try and exchange these for 25mm's if these continue being an issue.

 

What's being forgotten here is the width, as Rnicholls mentioned. a 7" wide wheel and an 8" wide wheel both with +25mm offset are two totally different wheels. Here's how I calculate it.

7" wide with +25mm = 4.98 BS = 2.02" of wheel sticking outwards
8" wide with +10mm = 4.89 BS = 3.11" of wheel sticking outwards

This leads to a difference of 1.09" of wheel sticking outwards over stock.

 

This makes sense, I just need to use a tire calc & visualize it. I retract my previous statement until I can visualize this better.

No. What you need to do is read up on what offset and backspacing are, and their relation to one another. It's confusing as shit at first, but read enough of it and it will hopefully click.
