    Hey guys,

Got a call from my dealer today telling me that they were receiving three Tacomas as part of their initial allotment. The Limited they were getting was Tan, but I told them that I was really interested in the Blazing Blue Pearl. Called me back an hour later, told me that apparently the dealership owner's son had ordered one in that color, with all the extras I had wanted, but then did not want the truck. So, he said I can put a deposit down tomorrow, and it should be here before the end of the month. Told him I need to take a good test drive first before considering purchase.

Any suggestions as to how to get the best deal out of this when getting down to the negotiating table?

I wouldnt expect they will be dealing on the first shipments. Probably getting it at msrp would be the norm. IMO.

    Good luck, Mike

Then what I would do is get financing and tell them you'll take the truck for 37k OTD.
Give them 15k down and finance the rest.
You finance with toyota and then dump the payment the next month.
And you just got yourself a truck for 3k less.
    Reasons why:
The dealer makes $$ selling cars.
The dealer makes even more $$ for selling cars before they hit their lots because they dont have to be conditioning them.
The dealer makes even more $$ because they are refering you to Toyota Fiance as a customer.
So the dealer will not care if they take off 3K because they are going to make that much more money doing all the above.
Edit: or at least Toyota Finance will make that much more money on you.

2% holdback on the base MSRP, too. They will make that back whether or not they discount it.

    Take them for it, too.

What is the tax in your area on 40k? Ouch

I figured approximately $830 for holdback. I'm hoping I can get mud guards, etc. thrown in as well. James_Bond, I like that idea. Hadn't thought of working it that way, but it makes perfect sense. Just need to look at the fine print to make sure that there is no sort of early payment penalty or some such. As far as tax....less than NY state where I used to live! About 6.something percent here now in CT.

Oh wow. We have to pay sales tax where the vehicle is registered in CA. We are in LA county and will pay 9%. Shiii.....

What is the Bed Step in options? I can't see it in the accessory section on the Toyota Web site for 2015.

It's in the option breakdown thread.
Does anyone have a picture of the bed step? I have never seen it

You get the idea. They think they are going to make good money on the interest so they'll never say no. Read the fine print and see how it goes.

When you go to the dealer take with you two forms of payments. One cash one a cashiers check. In California at least, you'll need to fill out a stupid form if you are going to pay more than 10k in hard bills.

Then just say you'll finance the rest through Toyota finance and you'll qualify for a bunch of "discounts".

One month later, you go to Toyota and take the rest of the cash saying that someone else financed you for less and here's the balance for the finance and you're done.

The first thing I would do is remove the bed step and the spare tire lock. You dont need that crap and even if you want them later, you can purchase on EBAY. Example to that is the bed extender. I want it but I am not ordering it with my truck. The MSRP on it is about $350 but they are selling new (factory versions) on EBAY for $200 delivered.

IF you must put a down payment down, make it contingent upon the test drive and BOTH parties coming to a final price agreement. It needs to be refundable in some way.

Then, just treat it like any other negotiation when the truck arrives. You will be balancing your desire to own the truck vs the price you are willing to pay....vs waiting around for another dealer to get the same thing at a lower price.

FYI, I am already complaining to the dealer about the fact that it does not come with power seats. Every time they mention something, I bring up the power seats. (DEALER) "Hey, it looks like the weather is going to be great this weekend". (ME)"yeah but it would be a better weekend if the truck had power seats". On multiple occasions I mentioned that the Colorado has power seats and I would look good driving that too.

So I went down today to put down the deposit. Here's how things went:

Guy gives me the usual spiel about how I am going to love the thing. Yeah, thats great. Then we get down to numbers and options and such. Talk to him about whats on there, what i want, etc. He wouldn't budge much on price, but I convinced him to throw in the mud guards, as well as their lifetime powertrain warranty for unlimited years/mileage (which is usually $275). He also said that they could take off the bumper step (and save the $300) if I wanted. I did put down the deposit, contingent upon a satisfactory test drive.

I'm going to bring this info to another dealership tomorrow, see if they'll match it, and can do better. Then I can take that back to the original dealer and see if he will budge.

IMO you need to settle on a price before you order. Not after.

So another dealership came almost $900 under MSRP, which is pretty good for my area in CT (not sure how TacoBella works these South Carolinians!), so I'm going to call the first guy and see if he will match. Otherwise, I'll go with the second. It's where my wife takes her RAV to get serviced, anyway.

The truck is already on it's way, someone else didn't want it.
