Nice! Did you take the suspension mods on this 3rd gen straight off your previous 2nd gen?

I installed a Yaesu FT-7900R in my 2016 Tacoma today. The RF deck was installed behind right rear seat. I ran a circuit with 12 AWG from a 40A fuse in the aux fuse block I had previously in the engine compartment, through the firewall, under the threshold of the drivers-side doors to the storage tub behind the rear seat. I mounted a RIGrunner 4005H behind the seat to allow circuits for powering additional radios and other items. I used a 40A relay to switch power on-off for the entire RIGrunner controlled by a push switch installed in the dash. I ran the cable for the detachable faceplate and external speaker under the threshold of the passenger-side doors. I mounted the Yaesu MLS-100 speaker to the underside of the front passenger seat running the cable under the carpet to the underside of the seat. I have not decided which location to mount the faceplate yet so the faceplate cable is hanging out from under the passenger-side of the dash at the moment. Candidate locations for mounting the faceplate are (1) in the overhead sunglass holder, (2) The windshield GoPro mount, and (3) the top of front cubby in front of the gear shift where the Qi charger is.

The RF deck install behind the rear passenger-side seat:

Powered from a 40A fuse from the aux fuse block in the engine compartment:

The 12 AWG wire for the power and the 16 AWG wires for the relay switching power on-off for the Yaesu FT-7900R controlled by a dash switch are run through the firewall and under the drivers-side door thresholds and under the B-piller:

The cables for the external speaker and the detachable faceplate are run under the passenger-side door thresholds. The cable for the speaker can be seen turning and diving under the carpet to the underside of the front passenger seat:

The speaker is mounted under the front passenger seat (shown unbolted and lifted away from the floor):

truck looks great! You have wasted no time sprucing it up! One question- how did you get your wheelers superbump to fit on the top of the flip plate?

A couple weeks ago TW member @bark beetle and I fabricated fuel and water can holders for Scepter MFC (Military Fuel Can) and water cans (MWC). The Scepter fuel and water cans, while generally the same size have details that are unique. The fuel cans swell a surprising amount when when sitting in the sun when full of gas, even on a 60 degree February afternoon. The handles are different between fuel and water cans and the height is slightly different. All of this led us to develop slightly different designs for fuel and water cans. We built 5 holders, one fuel holder and one water holder for my truck.

I am looking at various options for mounting the MFC/MWC holders in the bed of the truck on long off road trips. I would like the can holders to be quickly removable yet solidly anchored. I like the L track install that @Crom put in the bed of his truck. When bolt adapters are used with L track, it seems like the holders would be very solidly anchored but removable. Any other ideas?

Started fabrication of a front receiver with @bark beetle. I have used a receiver mounted M8000 winch in a cradle (can be front or rear) on my 2006 and have really liked that set up. I store the winch on a custom bracket in the front of the bed when not in use. I am going to try and set up my 2016 3rd Gen with a similar receiver mounted winch. Here is a thread on the set-up in my 2006 2nd Gen:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/receiver-winch-install-front-and-rear.368480/

    and a couple of photos:

Since the 3rd Gen is similar in some respects to the 2nd Gen but also different, a 2nd Gen bar would not work. On a 2nd Gen, the receiver typically passes through the lower grill. On a 3rd Gen, the lower "fat lip" bumper would make such an arrangement very awkward looking since the receiver would have to extend all the way out beyond the lower bumper to clear it and allow a receiver mounted winch to be mounted. In addition, I want to keep my 30" lightbar mounted in the lower grill. So I am planning to run the receiver out through the center of the "fat lip" lower bumper.

I purchased a portion of a 2nd Gen recovery bar from @Mobtown Offroad. Joe at Mobtown was kind enough to sell me just the side posts with studs from his recovery bar which saved half a day of fabrication. The Mobtown parts are of excellent quality.

We found that the 3rd Gen dimensions for the lower mounting bolts must be a little different, as the lower mounting bolt tabs would not fit but it was a simple matter to cut them off and then bolt all the parts to the truck and weld them back on in the correct position. Afterward we welded a section of 0.25" wall 2"x2" square tube as a crossbar and added a receiver slug to the center. The receiver is short as a 8" receiver extender will be slipped through a hole in the front face of the bumper after the front clip of the truck is re-installed. This arrangement allows both a reinforcing lip around the end of the receiver and a tight fit between the bumper and the receiver. Not using an extender would have either required a large unsightly gap in the bumper around the receiver or no reinforcing lip.

Here are a few photos of progress on the front receiver:

The front receiver using Mobtown side posts:

The front receiver fitted to the truck (ignore the winch power cables hanging from truck) with Apex lightbar mounts from @MojaveMadman:

the stock Aluminum and plastic crush bumper parts can be reinstalled (good since the lower valance bolts to the Aluminum crossbar.

Unfortunately, in removing the front clip, I broke the mounting fastener on the drivers side (part 52116-04070) in the process. Now waiting on a new part so I can get the front clip reinstalled.

I've not used the threaded faster fitting personally, but seen them used in other builds. I think it work really well for your intended application.

    Sweet build!

A couple questions about the dakars..

did you need to get extended brake lines?

also did you need to get longer rear shocks from icon?

    thanks for the help!
