I need to lengthen my cables by about 5”, and I want to do it right. Clean, and with quality materials. All the ones on Amazon have cheap terminals, but I did see a few possibilities on EBay that looked decent.

    Any tips?

Might be better to buy wire and make them yourself to whatever length you want.

You can size up the gauge and buy good quality connectors. Industrial/automotive supply house should have everything you need in stock and you can assemble the cable with ends in a few minutes.

Thinking about it. I just don’t know the best way to splice it. My electrical experience is pretty limited.

So if I make my own, I’d need the wire and ends obviously, quality cable cutters (I don’t want chewed up wires), some kind of crimping tool and associated connectors? Or would I solder the splice?

This is how I did it: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...atteries-thread.295653/page-113#post-19834036
I consider it to be a fairly clean install. All parts for the 2 ga. section of this project including the wire came from https://crimpsupply.com/

You say you have limited electrical experience, but want to do it right and clean. So no offense, but it sounds like you got some learning to do

One other option comes to mind, a Battery Terminal Extension Kit from Slee. I chose not to go this route, just because I didnt like how much bare metal it left exposed, but it does have its purpose

Don't splice, just fabricate new cables of the correct length and install.

Good crimping tool, butt splices, 2 gauge wire, HD heat shrink (with adhesive), wire loom, and 2 ga lugs for the top end would probably round out the parts list if you DIY. I would not solder unless you feel your soldering skills are good

Also an option if you want to chase the factory loom all the way down to the starter motor. Still need terminal lugs, wire and a good crimp tool at bare min though

On second thought I doubt I could get that much wire hot enough for a good solder connection and I’m not going use gas.

Can somebody link to the right connectors for the splice?

I’d dont really want to do all that. I’ll take another look tomorrow but I think it’s more complicated on this truck.

    Fair enough criticism

That looks great. I think I’ll go this route. I’m also going be to adding a 6 circuit aux fuse box which will attach to the additional posts on my 27M battery. So I def have some learning to do, which means I get to buy new tools. And three times as much materials as I’ll need next time.

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!

As opposed to what? It's a fricken battery cable. They've been on trucks since there have been trucks.

Splicing you're 3rd gen cable is no more complicated than splicing any other battery cable.

If you want to do it 100%, they are telling you exactly the way to do it.

Like I said, I’ll look again. It looked like I’d have to cut apart the loom and then have to re wrap it all back up.
