What makes the Taco seats so bad that the seat jackers are such an improvement?

I used to own an F150 and I remember that in a full size truck, your legs do dangle down like you're sitting in a dining room table chair. Tacoma is not this way, with the legs angled forward towards the pedals, so we know the seat height in a Tacoma is "low" for a truck.

But that just means the seating position in a Tacoma is like in a Sedan/car. But we don't usually see that car drivers need to add seat jackers for comfort.

Also the seats in a 4Runner are very similar, dimensionally, to a Tacoma. I've ridden in a 4R for long distances and not had the same issue.

Genuinely curious why this is. I have considered buying seat jackers since long drives in my Taco tends to screw up my lower back for a week afterwards. But I've seen reports of people who bought seat jackers and then they have other issues like windshield visibility or headliner rubbing. Gain in one area, lose in another.

I got mine to lift only the rear. The way I sat the front of the seat seemed to press too much behind my knees. I had reduced circulation to the lower legs resulting in some cramping. Raising the rear took off that pressure and distributed my weight more evenly. I also had lower back pain on longer drives, the angle of my back changed. Now, I am 77 so younger folks may not have either of those problems. For me the rear lift was a real QoL improvement.
I am 5'10" and did not have reduced visibility or head room problems. I hope this was a help.

more curious to know How he did it than Why

the stock ABS in early 2nd gens is garbage

the seating position is not like a car. Nor can the lower half adjust up like a car.

buy them. Install them. Notice how much better it feels. Simple.

Sure. Here's a good read for more info https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/abs-kill-switch-mod-for-05-offroad-easy-way-pics.170927/ and https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/4lo-trac-abs-kill-switch-why-why-not.257444/#post-6254094, but in short this is what was happening...

After installing a Stage 2 Icon lift and slightly larger 275/65-18 tires, I hit some mountain roads and thought I was going to die when I couldn't steer through a turn. I thought it was it was my tires rubbing on my cab mount or fender since there was a shuttler through the wheel and what sounded like repetitive rubbing. I got pulled out of my lane and almost hit another car. After some trimming and testing I realized it wasn't rubbing at all and that's when I came across info on the ABS kill switch. From what I understand, the lift is confusing the yaw sensor and so through a turn/lean, it engages the ABS (reason I felt a shutter) and prevents steering.

The mod is different for different models, but for my '13 TRD Sport, it was a matter of cutting the green ABS under the dash, running them to a spdt rocker switch with a ground. When I do, the dash lights up showing that all traction features are disabled including ABS.
Simple flip and it's back to normal. With it disengaged I can drive though turns as normal. In weather I often leave it engaged and obviously adjust my driving. Hope this helps

Came back here to say ABS Kill Switch as well. Haven't done it yet (still need wire), but I bought this switch from Air On Board to do it. Going to place next to the ATRAC switch.

I have stock tires but the benefit I'm seeking is for braking while on dirt or gravel. Apparently you can stop much quicker if the wheels can lock up and dig in.

Just so you know, this mod is illegal in many states, and I think may be a federal violation too.

I had the mod and my truck failed State Inspection, so now I carry a spare relay to swap in and out.

I've heard a few people mention that. When I use them together normally theres not a soul around for miles so I have no worries about it. Cops around me are pretty chill and let a LOT of things slide. Besides I dont have inspections where I'm at. What's kind of funny is the trusted mechanic I take my truck to is actually a cop so if anyone were to find out it would be him.

No inspections here. But if it helps stopping on gravel, I'll pass. I have a lot of gravel road here, I drive almost as if it was ice.

I can't speak for anybody other than myself, but with the stock seats the headrest hit my head at an uncomfortable angle and the seat overall was just too low. Added cushioned seat covers and the added inch or so of cushioning raised things enough to make them comfortable.

Best Quality of Life additions were the seat covers and updated head unit and speakers with sound deadening in all 4 doors.
