QueenCity_Offroad Build Thread (2021 DCSB TRD Off-road Cement)

A bit late to the game of a build thread, but here we go! I bought the truck brand new from a dealership local to me in 2021 and started the mods immediately. Sliders on at 700 miles and then it was a slippery slippery slope from there. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed getting out in my local Area (SW MO, N AR) as much as humanly possible, and meeting a ton of people in the community. Many more adventures to be had!

@QueenCity_Offroad How are those Klever's on the road? I've been looking around for next set tires but only part time trail user and of course like every tire there are mixed reviews so can't tell what to believe.

Absolutely love them. I had the R/T's before the MT2's in the same size. For the price you can't beat it.

The MT2's are decently loud and wandering as you'd expect from an aggressive MT. They've performed great in the rain, and even better offroad. Plus they look really good haha.

For you, if you only casually hit the trails I'd recommend the R/T. Compliant and quiet like an AT, but perform very well offroad.

Let me know if you have any other/specific questions!

I am just getting into GMRS and have been looking at mobile radios. How do you like the XT265, and the ghost antenna? Where did you mount the radio? And if you were to have the option, would you choose the XT575 radio for more power?

So sorry I got to this late! But I mounted mine in the passenger footwell, makes it super easy to run the mic up to the mount. Wires run behind the console to the cab fuse panel. Hope this helps if it's not too late!

I think the MXT275 is perfect for 99.9% of users, especially where you are rolling as a group. Since it's more short distance anyways, super clear with 0 issues. I think the 575 would be better in applications like farming, giant warehouses etc etc. The Ghost has great throw for the same reasons. Eventually I want to bumper mount a whip but that's ONLY because I think it's cool haha.

    DIY REAR SWING OUT

With the cost of dual/single swing being astronomical, I decided to build my own! It was my first real fab project on the truck, and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. I decided to go with a round tube design on top because imo it looks a lot cleaner, but if you don't have access to a tube bender this is achievable with square.

I used parts from several different companies to make it possible:

Swing Out Tire Carrier Hinge Assembly (Swing Out Tire Carrier Hinge Assembly-1410050 (4xinnovations.com))

Swing Out Tire Carrier Latch Assembly (Swing Out Tire Carrier Latch Assembly-1410061 (4xinnovations.com))

Tire Carrier Hinge Stainless Skid Pad (Tire Carrier Hinge Stainless Skid Pad-1450052 (4xinnovations.com))

Spare Tire Mounting Plate (Spare Tire Mounting Plate – Barnes 4WD)

    Gussets (3" x 3" Cutout Gusset – Barnes 4WD)

Backwoods Jerry Can Holder (Jerry's Can Holder - Dual Universal Jerry Can Carrier (backwoodsadventuremods.com))

1.75" .120 wall tube for the top part

2x3 .120 wall square for the bottom

.085 Plate stitch welded to hold the jerry can, attached with grade 8 hardware.

    Problems/Future improvements:

I think a compression latch is the way to go, the latch kit from 4X is much harder to package, and it does wiggle quite a bit from time to time.

When measuring and planning I thought the flat portion of the BackwoodsAdventureMods bumper was perfectly flat, that was not the case so there is a tiny bit of downward angle when the swingout is open.

Deflection, surprisingly there is very little for a single swingout, but eventually I want to add some rubber bumps near the hitch to reduce the deflection. Ideally you'd do a dual swingout to eliminate this, but I really like having one side of the truck completely open.
