Is the skid plate on the 2014 Tacoma Off Road pkg the same one that they have as an accessory? Or is the one in the "accessories" catalog better?

I believe it's the same one. The plate itself is okay, but the bracketry is panned by some for being less than robust. Someone here will no doubt have an aftermarket recommendation.

Isn't the accessory that silver thing that goes on top of the skid? Either way the skid won't really protect from much abuse. Mine was rattling on something so I bent it by hand away lol

It's just a cheap 1/8" Aluminum splash guard like Germ said.

No problem. If you plan to wheel your rig and plan on using a skid, get a nice beefy steel one from one of the various vendors.

    A little a this, a little a that...
The stock ones are good enough unless you plan on needing one. I've hit and dented mine, but never had an impact big enough to damage the important pieces underneath. The T-case is the one area that is real vulnerable with no protection. I got an aftermarket skid for that. If you plan to rock crawl, plan on investing in better protection. Otherwise, spend that money on gas. :D
