Hey, with all this second gen hatred being spouted out on the third gen forums, I was wondering...way back in late 2004 was there a shit ton of first gen folks shitting all over the incoming second gen truck? I mean, is this just how it goes?

All in all I've been pretty entertained by all this. I loved my 06 Taco, but my 16 is just a better vehicle; just like my 06 was a superior truck to the 03 that it replaced.

I'm sure there was more hatred from 1st to 2nd gen considering the truck size difference and the electronic engagement as opposed to manually engaged 4wd.

With each gen, Toyota steps more toward a vehicle design that is less truck and more suburbanite mall crawler. Started when they went from a solid front axle to ifs in 1986. It's been a slow but steady fall from grace since then. I like my 08, but it's not my 84 by any means. The 16 is built on a 2nd gen frame so the loss is minimal. Approach angle being one of most significant losses in my opinion. The off-road version not so bad.

I had a 93 SR5 4wd 5 speed. I've always regretted selling it. It was an absolute tank.

I removed the air dam on my 2016 today, so approach angle is back around 32°, comparable to my 2nd Gen, plus once I get a new plate bumper and a lift, approach angle will hardly be an issue.

No , that was before Tacomaworld existed

Now I have no choice but to put you on ignore and I suggest all the other 2nd gen owners do the same

In my opinion, there was a decrease in quality from 2004 to 2005. Cool, it's bigger, but the interior was garbage. I think the late second gens slightly improved on that. And I think 2016 (at least the limited) brought the interior quality back. The 2016 leather looks super nice fake or not. But now the engine is weak. Hopefully this will be fixed for more torque in later years. I want to buy a new Tacoma, but I may just have to wait another ten years for the 4the gen. If it doesn't seem like a quality vehicle, I might just stick with my 1st gen. Maybe I'll find a badass 4 door 1st gen one day.
    Idk just my opinion :notsure:

people need to rationalize their ownership of a 2nd gen when a complete redesigned 3rd gen comes available.

they redesigned everything except for the seat belt bracket. Mike told me

    Awww....

My OP wasn't specific to Tacomaworld, it was referencing the inter webs in general. Try to be more like your Rutger Hauer circa "Bladerunner" avatar, I don't think he'd be so sensitive:boink:

Normally i wiould agree with theshit talking part bit no. The 2016 is ass ugly in the front and the engine is downgraded.
Imo Toyota fucked up. As far as drivetrain and the front end.
And what they want for the new mid size for $ is insane. For 40,000 why not spend another 5 to 10 and go for full size.

Gotta love Toyota and their inflated prices. The good thing about that price is that it won't depreciate very much throughout the years. It sucks though considering the initial buyer will take the biggest hit. Now, I'm waiting for the comments about the subpar "power" the 3.5 grants. :stirthepot:

I agree. Just because something is 'newer' doesn't automatically make it better. The 1st Gen has things that are better than the 2nd Gen and vice versa. Same for all the different toyota tacoma/pickup lineups. It just depends on what you individually are interested in or like better.
