am confused, post #24 OP says oop's was a problem. post #46 it is spelled out without using a relay. i read thru all 7 pages, i have all the parts just need clarification. those of you that have done this is it the original wiring diagram as shown in the first post? if not can you refer me to the one i should follow. also did you use some type of tap connectors to splice into the ECT and Lighter wires or did you cut wires?

I am just going to throw this out there... you don't need to have ect on all the time... nor would you want to. Do the following and you will not have an issue with your AT.

    1. When driving in the city... shift it straight to 'S' (all this does is lock out 5th and 6th which you don't need in the city)
    2. When going on the highway ... slap it over to 'D' (this uses all 6 gears obviously)
    3. If you want to use ECT... press it before you do the following things a) pass someone b) need to accelerate quickly to merge

That's it... use the tech in your auto. Life is easy.

Uh, pretty sure I use 5th and 6th, cruising along at 45 to 55. That's when I get my best mileage.

helps, one more question how did you tap into the wires, cut and splice or some type of crimp tap connector?

We are not talking about mileage.. he is about to mod the ECT on all the time.. not sure mileage is a concern for him. But yes... by all means use 5 and 6 in the city.. That is your choice. I was simply letting OP know he has a choice and it does not involve modding anything ;)

As for the straight to "S" - yes, it works. No shifting to 5 and 6. I've been doing it around town and under 45 or so. Drives better. Only had my truck a few days, so not really experimented much with ECT.

i used S mode for months and shifted when i wanted to but in the end the ECT mode is exactly how i like the truck to drive.

Shifting it "into S mode around the city" is not the same compared to ECT engaged. Nor does it change MPG. I do it for the smoother thottle response and power delivery. I prefer it on all the time, and sometime forget to engage it;hence why I created the mod. You can keep slapping it into S mode, and I'll just have it come on automatically when I hit the start button:p

ECT was not designed to be used that way... especially if you are lagging around in traffic. It is your truck and you can do whatever you like I could care less. What I listed above is how it is suppose to be used according to the manual .. just providing information to the OP not trying to convince him of anything or you for that matter.

I don't care what Toyota designed it for. All I know is my truck feels like a dog when it's off, and the throttle response is slower than 56k dial up. This mod will have to do until I can get some real power (turbos) and a properly tuned ECU. Some guys are having luck with installing "pedal commander" to solve the above issues. You can do what you want to yours, and likewise with mine. That's what builds the modding community!
