How about the headunit settings like when the headlights come on, and stuff like that? How do these aftermarket headunits control that stuff?

Wow, that's not much of a budget for retail sales and installation. The head unit is almost 1/3 of that. You may have to go cheap on some stuff.

Since you are going to have someone install it, you may want to take it to a shop and have them determine what they can do for that budget price.

How about it? Are you asking does it work with an aftermarket deck. Absolutely. In fact you can have multiple inputs so you can run a front camera and even side cameras in addition to the rear.

There is an Illumination wire on the head unit you connect to the vehicle that dims the button and screen upon turning on the lights. The amount you dim (and the color of your choice) is fully adjustable, at least on the Pioneer units I can confirm.

I have to agree with the Pioneer 8200NEX. I have a thread on here were I installed the Pioneer with the iDatalink Meastro. With the Meastro you keep all your steering wheel controls and most of the radio truck controls. Not to

op, im curious what your complaints are for the factory nav. I have the JBL unit in mine and love the nav fucntionality. I find it fairly intuitive and easy to use, infact my wifes durango comes with factory garmin nav and we both perfer my toyota nav.

For a fully optioned head unit at retail, speakers, amps, wiring, sound deadening, and retail installation? $3k isn't enough. You will have to cut corners somewhere.

There are two defects in the audio/nav system..

    1. Everything about the NAV is so inferior to modern smart phone mapping. Particularly the input of addresses. What was Toyota thinking LOL

    2. Sound is not loud enough for highway speeds which may be an artifact of poor sound insulation of the vehicle. A new stereo w/ amp should solve this.

I haven't done it, but am considering it. What about using the mirror mod if you're only wanting to use a few things from your phone?

I'm not familiar with that, I'll have to research it in the morning.

From what I understand, just mirrors your phone's screen onto your head unit.

I never used the Entune nav I prefer my iPhone maps so nav is not important for me in a head unit. What is important to me is sound quality . Does anyone actually need a CD player these days? Aftermarket is the bees knees for SQ imo and the Apple Car Play is a bonus . Imagine being able to do time alignment and adjust crossovers etc etc on your head unit :)...

My twins never sounded as good as they do now with an aftermarket head unit! The dsps and locs I tried only made them sound muddy and/or like fake bass.

just had my system installed 2 days ago and i kept the Entune head unit. all this fancy amp and speaker bit is lost with the stock unit's sound quality.

I'm going back today for a 8200NEX and a maestro... thanks for sharing.

BTW... I have the 8000NEX with a Maestro in my wife's Impreza. It's a great head unit.

I recently swapped to this unit with the Idata link and wish I had done it sooner. I was originally wanting to keep the stock headunit to kinda conceal the jl audio everything else I put in the truck but this thing allows me to control all the audio tuning right from the head unit. being able to have obd II capabilities with extra gauges is kinda cool too. The only other reason why I went with this one is I have always had a garmin for nav in my truck and this does also, Car play is cool and all with Google maps but if you wander into a dead zone its nice to know I have some other form of nav... aside from knowing how to navigate by direction of the sun and whatnot. I would do it and not look back as the factory stuff isn't that great. just my .02.
