I was wondering, I have an 09 quad cab. lifted with 35's on it. I don't use the spare tire compartment under the bed. Obviously, a full size spare will not fit. I plan getting a roof rack and having the spare there. Now for my question. I would like to know if anyone has made a storage compartment that would take the place of where the factory spare would be? Under the bed. to use that wasted space. Something shaped same as a tire and can be lifted and held into place same as a spare would be. It could be a (hidden compartment) type thing. You could use to basically store whatever you want. Any ideas? Thanks in advance

I wouldn't trust the spare lift cable to support a storage trunk.
I mean, the spare is heavy, but those things have been known to fail. If one fails and dumps a spare, you'll have less issues with the insurance company of the guy that runs into it than if it's some kind of storage compartment.

I agree with Rich about it being a liability issue.
You could just do what I did:

I've seen some that are attached to the frame and the bed is cut/ hinged as the door.

Is cozy and may require some trimming of the guides that the tire wedges into, but can be done.

I was told that trimming is needed to fit bigger tires.
I'll have to do some measuring and figure it out, haven't seen it on any thread so far.
