question on the brakes

    have 3500 mi on 2011 access cab v6. I seem to be getting dust on the outside of the wheel thinking it looks lke might be from the disk breaks. is this normal for the tacoma? have the standard wheel that came with it. seems it just started as of lately hoping someone give their throughts on this. before I call dealer do Luv the pickup wishing I had gotten one long ago instead of the fords thanks for the help have a great weekend

    you're gonna get dust on the wheels from the brakes- it's normal. Exactly like what whipper said, it's from the friction between the rotors and the brake pads.

    Also, you should have more on the front than the back, since the back brake drums give off way less dust....just gotta wash it off every once in awhile.

    Among other factors, the pad material affects the amount of dust let off by the brakes. Therefore, some vehicles give off more dust than others. Pay attention to Audis you see; they typically have red/brownish front wheels within days of washing. I owned an A6 that always looked filthy!
