Have you ever actually tried the Scout Link version? That requires a connection to your cell phone? No, it doesn't work fine. Quite often it just wont navigate to what i enter.

WTF is Scout? I have no clue. I use the Entune GPS. Works fine. My Samsung Google GPS works fine. Sometimes they have the same route, sometimes there is deviation. But, there is usually more than one road leading to a place.

Don't have time to read the thread, but just in case it hasn't been said.

The GPS system is completely dog shit. Frequently it takes me to the wrong location. Because it's there, I try to use it, but have to use my phone to verify its at least close to where I'm trying to go. Often my wife reminds me that I don't need to put my fist through it as we drive by the road it should have told me to take a few seconds ago.

As far as model, most on here are going to tell you if it's not the Off Road it's not worthy.

    Thanks. I love google maps.
I thought the Auto LSD came on automatically when it detected slip. I wouldn't have to push any button or turn any knob. The rear locker, i'd have to do a multi step procedure that I can't remember.

Crap! You're right. I keep goofing that up. It's the under 30mph to engage?

    I'll edit that.

No, auto is on, until you shut it off. And the locker only engages when you are in 4 low I believe.

Nope, the locker engages with the simple push of a button. Separate from A-Atrac and separate from 4wd activation as well.

Correct, can’t engage or drive faster with locker on past 30mph.

Cool didn't know that, but don't you need to be in 4 low to use it?

Sorry just a prissy sport owner here, but stepped up from my poor SR model before.

The GPS that is native to my Tacoma's radio is horrible. It's actually comical to try and get it to navigate someplace using the voice system. "Navigate to Bob's Garage in Webster." "Navigation started to Boston Commons Wooster", stuff like that. I don't bother with it anymore. My wife tried that app thing in her Highlander, it was a complete joke. She just got a phone mount and uses Google maps like a real adult.

Both have Computer Simulated Limited Slip, the OR adds an additional Selectable Electronic Rear Locker.

This is why i thought OR did not have Auto LSD. It is only checked off for the SPORT

    Not always accurate.

Also, AutoLSD is not a mechanical LSD, just the TRAC system simulating an LSD.

Exactly! Last Tacoma's with mechanical LSD was around 08 or 09.

    1) No. Keep in mind that the 2018 map you get in your Taco is likely a later 2016 map version or early 2017 in reality since the factory would have to had it spec'd out and licensed before the assembly line. As a general rule of thumb, you should be fine. As far as construction that was underway when the map was created or after, you simply won't get those changes and you'll have to go to the dealer to get an update which is likely $300+ in the first two years. For those folks that are complaining about wrong directions, longer routes, etc., keep in mind that you have the options to select on how to the get there, i.e. fastest route, no freeways, no bridges, no tolls, etc. Set up your generic preferences and ride it out. Yes, occasionally, you'll personally know a better way, but in the long run, it will get you there if you really don't know where you're going.

Also, something that several folks mention is to use your phone. Keep in mind that map navigation on your phone chews up a ton of data on your data plan and heats up your phone fast. So, if you're on an unlimited data plan and change out your phone every year or two, no worries. But if you keep your phones for a long time and have a limit on your data plan, you'll need to take that into account. The data usage in the Taco is covered by Toyota for the life of the head unit. Many manufactures are pushing towards an "integrated app" method to the infotainment center and calling it an upgrade and marketing it as a feature. But in reality, just in regards to the map aspect, they're unloading that cost onto you. I plan on keeping my Taco ( still not purchased yet ) 10+ years, so for me it's worth it and just get a map update once or twice.

    2) For the most part, all of the map/traffic data are pulled from the same source, but each manufacturer ( google, Toyota, etc. ) customize it for how they want to present it to their users. So yes, the connected GPS in the Taco and Google work basically the same way, but will have a different user interface on how they do it.

    3) Yes, but you'll need to research them out or search on TW.com since there is likely some good information already out there. Be mindful that an aftermarket head unit might need an adapter to hook into the roof antenna.

    5) Same here, my needs match the Sport. I plan on using PlastiDip on the color keyed rear bumpers. Not sure on the front just yet.

Does anyone else just use the GPS to show you a map of where you generally are? I don't think I've ever programmed in a destination before now that I think about it hahaha

I do and I also plan my trips and destinations in advance, unlike several people in this thread. Proper planning prevents piss poor performance right? 6 P's.
