Im thinking about getting a second gen so that I have more interior room for my family but have a couple of questions that maybe you guys can help me with. Do all the 4L motors have drive by wire, or just the newer ones?
If they all are Is there a chip or programmer to make the throttle more progressive?
Is it possible to get a rear electric locker in the newest trucks?
    Thanks

Every new car from 2005 are drive by wire. It was mandated by the gov. Also, welcome to the club. You won't regret it. ;)

I came from F-150's to a second gen tacoma. I really like the truck, has plenty of room for a family and the v6 has plenty of power for towing. Like a lot of owners my milelage averages between 14.5 to 15.5 with city driving. Just a heads up. BTW I have a lead foot.

There is an electronic add-on that makes the drive by wire more responsive and eliminates the hang. URD carries it, but I don't remember the name. It's currently available just for the autos, but supposedly the manual version is in development.
