ok. the thing is that i really can't tell if the top of the coil is the flat end or not because of the cushion under the top plate. i really can't tell about the bottom either because it sits down in the perch/cup. if i put some pictures on would that help? if these are upside down, what are any effects that i may have from that? also, i looked at many ome coil setups before asking this. they looked the same as mine as far as i could tell.

The one on the right is the OME coil / shock

You see the perch at the bottom , and how the ' tail ' of the coil is seated in the perch ?

Is that how your's are ?

Dude I fell like a complete shmuck and I apologize for any wrongful info that I have provided. To be honest I had a local off road shop pre-assemble the shocks and coils to make the install alot easier on myself and my friends that helped...I just assumed the flat part would go on the bottom...now I know

I'll negative rep my damn self :pout:

lol, it's alright coltstrd. we all make simple mistakes. thanks for the help anyways. oz-t, i think that is how mine look; like the one on the right. i have some pics taken and will post them when i get home after work tonight. but it looks as if the "fatter" looking part, the non flat end of the coil, is sitting in the bottom, because it sticks up a little like in your pic. hopefully so. i'll get the pics up later to get you guys to help me confirm. it just had me worried with the ride being really stiff, almost like my spacers. i was scared something was wrong. maybe they just haven't settled in yet. thanks for the continued help and future help guys.

ok, here's the pictures of the tops and bottoms of my coils. i think it looks like it's supposed to, but i wanted to be sure. the part in the seat/cup looks to be the rounded end of the coil, like it's supposed to be; it doesn't look like the flat end. it was just the top part under the top plate that made me wonder, because it's so close to the top and it's turned around so that i can't for sure see the other end to tell if it's flat or not. so could you guys tell me if this looks how it's supposed to and if everything looks alright?

seriously? that would explain why it rides better, but not amazing. and why i got so much lift out of it for a 4x4. i got like right at or a hair over 3'', and from what i've read, i should only expect about 2.5-2.75'' with my 4x4. i don't really know what brand the spacer was. but i kind of assumed when i took this to the mechanic that he would take it out when i said "i want to get rid of these spacers and put these coils and shocks on." i guess it was like a two piece spacer maybe? double them up for 3'' and one for like 1''? and he left part in or something. the only thing i asked to re-use was the top plates. surely he didn't think that was the top plate. i'm not sure. i know that my measurements from center of hub to fender are at about 24''. but i've been driving on this for about 2 months and have had no real trouble, other than it not riding as smooth as i had expected. i guess this would be like just using the top plate spacers.

One is a Pre load (the one you have currently installed), and the other is a top plate. You should consider pulling it out, but you would have to buy new spring isolators from a dealer, or someone selling their old set up.

i just don't understand how he could fuck that up. that's crazy. but this is essentially the same concept of if i had used my top plate spacers, correct? and since there isn't really a problem with running those with your OME lift, then is this harmful to my truck? or is it like i mentioned, same concept as top plate spacers? if it is going to fuck something up, i'll get them taken off right away. but if they're not a problem, just stiffening the ride a little like the OME top plate spacers would, then maybe it's alright.

nevermind. top plate sits on the TOP PLATE, lol. my fault. that's why they don't effect the ride. these cause my coils to be more firm constantly cause they are crammed in there; thus the firmer ride.

so is this going to come back and bite me in the ass down the road and tear something up really bad? or, am i just going to have a stiffer ride? it does ride better than before with just the spacers. but like i said in the first place, it doesn't ride like i had expected it to. it's in the middle. but even if i do get these taken out, and put on the top plate spacers, won't it ride stiffer too? because i will be losing down travel. basically i am asking, which is better and going to ride better: leaving this on here with a little stiffer ride, or taking this off and putting the top plate spacers on, which will also ride stiffer? if there is no real harm in what i have got and it's not really going to ride much different, then maybe it's not worth all the time i'll have to set aside to getting it changed out.

i also don't understand how this adds up. two 3'' lifts on top of one another still only came out to be about 3''. i am confused about this and what to do.

The spacer thats still in there is not a 3" lift on its own. Its about 1.5". Right now, your about 3.5" lift or so, Im guessing. The ride will be more firm with those in there. The ride would be better if you removed them, and installed the correct spring isolators inplace of them.
