Ok so i just bought the alpine x100 deck for my truck...now i have a few questions before i hook up the wires....on the aftermarket harness there is an orange (illum. wire), a dark blue(power antenna wire) and the black ground wire...ok so this dark blue and orange ones, do i have to connect them?...also the decks wires for these two came with two different wire plugs on the ends, should i just cut em' off and wire it to the harness that way?....also the black wire from the deck is made to get grounded by a screw, but shouldn't it connect directly to the black wire on the aftermarket harness?....thanks for your help...:)

hey man, i never hook up the illumination(orange) wire nor do i hook up the power antenna(blue) wire, just cap them off so that they don't touch anything . . . .

also it is safe to put the ground from the radio and tie it into the ground from the factory harness ( black to black)

this is true, on some older decks there was only a blue wire, but now on all decks there is a blue/white (remote wire) that is used for this

i know that my old pioneer did not have a blue/white wire

you have to watch out though because on some of them your amp will only be on when the radio is on ie. when the power antenna is supposed to be out

anyways cap em off/ tape em up :D

Toytec ultimate lift kit, light racing UCAs, ARB bumper and full skid plates underneath. Looking into redoing the suspension and maybe repainting the ol' Taco.
I also agree that you are fine to cap them with tape and not worry about using them. But I do tend to use the illumination wire when possible. It is just nice to be able to dim the H/U on a dark night on a long drive, imo.

Another thing, ideally, you should use similar spade and bullet connectors or something rather than just twist splicing and covering with tape. Makes for a more professional install incase someone decides to steal your H/U. ;)

    Just my $.02

I have a question regarding the illumination wiring on this nav unit. The installation instruction calls out for an orange/white wire to be hooked up to the head light switch (illumination (+)). On the HU unit itself there is a sticker that says orange/white to illumination (dimmer).

On the Metra wiring harness with the large connector there is an orange/white wire labeled (dimmer) and on the small connector there is an orange/black wire but on the Metra instructions it is labeled orange (illumination).

Can anyone help with this installation? This is my last wire to be hooked up and it is holding up my installation

    Thanks.....
