from a price point that looks like the best option. If i could afford it and wanted a sport touring bike, i would lean towards the Ducati Multistrada. Honda has the VFR1200f but it is full fairing. So if you like the naked appearance of the FZ1, you would loose that with the honda. Honda also has the CB1000r. But it is a little less touring, a full naked, and a little more on the sport side then touring. But not as bad as a full sports bike. I had a Duacti Monster and it was great for long trips with the ergos. But the lack of fairings caused me some fatigue over time. Honda also has an adventure bike at a great price point, the NC700X. But it isnt 1000cc

Honda or Yamaha. Both have pretty good reliability. Suzuki is hit or miss. You could end up with a great one or a POS. Ducati are nice but they are finicky, expensive to work on, and not the most reliable. Valve adjustments every 7500 miles is insane.

As for ducati couldn't agree more. Expensive to maintain. But they have increased their valve maintenance out to 15000 miles. Yes, still an expensive job to do that often but it is better. :)

Yea i heard about the Ducati maintenance and didnt even consider one.
I love the looks of tge new interceptor but they are pricey.
I had a brand new 2007 gsxr600 before and it didnt give me any issues.
I think im still leaning toward the fz1 there are dealers near me with 2013 leftovers listed for good prices

x2, if I were to buy a long range bike, it'd be a BMW. Damn those things are smooth and a ton of fun to ride.

Well my dumbass decided to sit on a honda superhawk and instantly loved them. They have been out if production for some years, is any company currently making a 1000cc v twin sport bike? (Ducati excluded).
Good news is around me a older superhawk with average miles can be had for under 3 grand, i already read about modding the electrical charging components

I'm about to pick up a Kawasaki Concours 14. 1/2 the price of a BMW, and just as fast, if not faster.

I would ride all three and see which feels best to you.
For a sport tourer I wouldn't be so concerned which is the fastest etc....
your going to spend ALOT of hours on there... ergonomics are priority #1

You can also check for an older Aprilia Futura. Great sport tourer. I've got an Aprilia Falco. I mounted a GIVI top case on it, and pretty easily do a week on it. But I'm almost 60 years old now, and the riding position is getting to be a bit hard on my shoulder. (hence the move to the Kawasaki. And, there are several brand new 2013's for less than $13K).

Yes a BMW K1600Gt would be very nice, but damn, $24,000?
