I have a 2018 Tacoma with 34k miles, and whenever I drive it the radio turns on and off. It really annoying. It’s there a fix for it or do I just need to change it out? If I change it out will it continue to happen?

Does it power down completely or just lose sound ? Mine does a weird thing where I have to occasionally click audio, and press the source I was just using again to get audio back

Mine completely powers down and restarts, it does it randomly. Some days it will be fine no issues, other days it will do it non stop for 10miles

My 2019 would do that when my iphone was connected via bluetooth. No problem with android. I thought Toyota issued a TSB for that issue though.

If you swap out the radio to an aftermarket radio, the issue does not carry over.

Have you updated the firmware? Check out the thread linked below. This stopped mine from restarting.

My 21 Tacoma does the same when I first had it (Currently 14,385 miles). I initially thought it was my add on accessories and causing grounding issue. Wire brushed all terminals connections without luck. Not sure if you all are still on factory battery? It should be a ground issue.

After I upgraded a battery for my setup X2 - 31m deep cycle, radio + blind spot system on and off issue went away.

Hope this help and solve yall's issue also.

Mines been doing this a lot lately. After about 5 times in 15 minutes the dash powered down and booted back up while driving along with a bunch of dash lights (Christmas tree effect), it then reset itself and was fine. Until it happened again. :annoyed: After stopping for gas and restarting the truck the issue went away for the day.

Might be due for a new battery.

As Toyota told me when I pointed this out "It turns back on, right?"

My ‘09 had a radio like that. Eventually got Toyota to replace it.

My outfit has the JBL set-up with navigation, weather channel etc. When it started to screw up, I thought that it was going to take a new unit to have tunes and nav again. By accident, I discovered the SD chip was loose in its socket - the part has a tiny notch that keeps it in place and when worn away by road vibes - it pops out, gets intermittent contact. Holding it down in place was a temporary cure - something in the software requires the SD card. So I bought a cheapo Amazon replacement - it plugged in and seated securely - and the troubles with my unit (going dead, blanking the screen, etc) went away. And I got a newer map.....

I don't know if mine works or not.... I've never turned it on, probably won't ever turn it on.

So it's acting up again. Seems to be a correlation between pressing the brakes and shutting down/rebooting. Going to try a new battery.
