i have a 2004 Tacoma....radio is fine but dated....since XM Sirius is all I listen to, would like to find one with that and also an auxiliary port which I assume is on everything now....
Looked at several but I do NOT like the "aftermarket" looks necessarily....I definitely need one that is square in shape and fits existing hole without modifications...
    Questions..
    1. Does anyone know what year Toyota radios could I look for that would fit but would be newer enough to have xm and aux port?
    2. Or does anyone recommend a touchscreen that would fit?

Suggest you visit crutchfield.com and do your research there. That website will answer ALL of your questions.

I have looked at the aftermarkets from crutchfield and elsewhere. Just don't seem to like any of them. My dash and all instrumentation has the orange backlights to it including the radio....just not a fan of the bluish "EQ" look of the aftermarkets....
Has anyone on here ever put a newer Toyota radio (gen 2 or 3) in a gen 1 truck?
All I am after is XM capability or an Aux. jack ...

Hey Banjo, I totally understand your perspective because I share your thoughts. I am currently rebuilding a 2003 Double Cab 4x4 and this is one of the items I struggled with. I even went as far as purchasing a replacement stock unit because I didn't want the looks of the new aftermarket units. They always look out of place in that the plastic's too shiny, the controls are typically hard to use and they're a pain in the ass to hook up and the result usually isn't what you'd expect. I even went as far as buying a couple of aftermarket pieces of gear (Audio Control LCQ-1 and GTA Bluetooth Car Kit) to help make the stock unit sound better had I elected to stick with my original plan.
BUT, I did find a fantastic alternative. Just today (no joke), I purchased the Sony XAV-AX100 from Crutchfield. The unit has a matte black finish, has a volume control knob (SWEET!) and it fits in the dash! It has Apple play, XM radio, FM HD, blah, blah blah. It will also plug directly into the stock wiring harnesses (with a particular adapter of course). So yah, it took a lot, but I finally broke down and bought aftermarket. I am NOT a stereo salesman, work for Sony or any of that, so I'm not pushing it on you, but it is worth a look.

A lot of aftermarket radios allow you to change the color, so don't just go by the pictures. Check the specs to see if the colors are adjustable.

I agree a lot of the aftermarket stereos have bad interfaces these days especially single din units. It's hard to find channels on SiriusXM with the small screen of the single din. It's also hard to control fader, balance, etc. Seems like the companies are putting more effort into double din stereos.

I didn't even know sirius was still around. Why not just get something with Bluetooth and stream it from your phone?

Simple install with no modifications and there are plenty of colors you can choose from. Bluetooth, backup camera and you can play DVD’s or YouTube. So much better than a stock radioC050C920-C872-40F4-810F-57E9DE4E07C0.jpg 4C3264DB-B39D-470C-9DF3-1D461F3A0685.jpg 40418867-E7E4-44C3-A312-15ADF6402A9E.jpg

I probably will never own another touch screen radio. I put one, an Axxera 604BI that I got off of Crutchfield in my other vehicle and after 2 years the touch screen developed a diagonal hairline crack making half of its functions useless

Sirius and XM merged to form SiriusXM. It's just easier to have the SiriusXM module built into the car radio. It will buffer your 6 favorite channels so you can rewind. You don't have to worry about a weak cell signal or driving through an area with no cell signal.

It's surprising that a stereo made by Axxera broke.

There are 2 types of touchscreen, clear resistive and capacitive. Capacitive is on high end models and is like a smart phone. Clear resistive requires more pressure. Maybe that contributed to cracking your screen.

If your smart phone screen cracked would you never own another smart phone?

I think I have given up and am now trying to find an external Sirius radio that I can just work through with an FM transmitter....

I just used a more modern Scion radio. Plugs right into the existing harness
