His ranger is better at; depreciating, breaking down, using cheaper parts and looking like crap. All in all he might have you.

In Motor Trend's recent 2009 Truck buying guide they simply summed up the Ranger as a "Living Fossil"

... I think they did a good job!

I think he meant that by taking the Tacoma out, he means on a date! Who wouldn't want to take a Tacoma out...or perhaps as a spotter. Who knows. Who cares. We're still moving forward!

with the extent people modify their trucks, they all end up being pretty similar, Rangers are OK I like my Tacoma better though ... This was a useless response

Same here, I had the 4.0 long ago. Truck was always in the shop.
And the Ranger is a small truck class. The Tacoma is mid sized. So there is no comparison. The Tacoma Shits out Rangers in little pellets, like rabbit turds.

When i bought my first truck it was between a ranger and a taco, and i chose the taco cause it was just an amazing truck.

It's easier to get major wheel travel out of the Ranger than it is out of the Tacoma due to the design of the front suspension, but that's after all kinds of modifications.

Stock vs. stock my money's on the Tacoma.

    A Ranger, Ha! No comparison!

I had a '93 Ranger 4.0L. It doesn't look like they have changed anything in 20 years. I got the Ranger because of the price, and thought it was a decent truck. That was before I got educated on Toyota's. I traded it for a Toyota after it started having a lot of maintenance issues, and haven't looked back since!

Let your brother drive your truck, he won't get back in his Ranger after that, and you won't have to listen to his flack!

I have no experience owning a ranger or taking one off road, but I know the little 2.3 in the ranger is a tough little engine that I have seen go extremely high mileage. I have had several mustangs with the 2.3 and it is a pretty tought although gutless engine. That being said I still bought a Tacoma. :D:D:D

I have to chime on this one. I have had 4 v6 Rangers in the last 16 years. 1 (my 1993) was a TTB and the other 3 were torsion bar setups. All were the 4.0 v6 except for my 1999, which was a 3.0 v6 - which was dogmeat.

A newer Ranger with the 4.0 mated to their 5 speed auto is a great setup and would go head to head with a new Tacoma in just about any category with competent drivers.

I don't see how anyone can say its an apples to oranges comparison. Comparing 2 similar size v6 4x4 pickup trucks that directly compete with each other is as apples to apples as you can get.

Build quality is better in the Tacoma as is ride quality. The Ranger has a good history and is a basic no nonsense truck. While I love toyota, their use of electronic doo-dads like traction control, active breaking, etc, makes for a potentially less reliable truck and less burnout potential. You can get the Ranger in a manual shift 4x4 too. :)

I do believe this company my the name of FORD makes the Ranger. And we all know the reputation FORD has...
You know Found On Road Dead, Fourth On Race Day, Fix Or Repair Daily, For Off Road Death.
It would be safe to say that you don't have to worry about your brother, just enjoy your drive while your brothers Ranger is in the shop yet again:D

Or at least until Toyota buys yours back for a 20+ year old rust problem they still cant figure out.

Im just keeping the playing field fair.
