Ok, so about 4 months ago I meet this woman on a web-based dating site. We're going along very well, then one day she just up and disappears, don't want nothing to do with me.

Just found out why last night.

While I was with her, her computer hard drive went dead. I work for a computer repair shop (in fact I'm a manager there), and I know what a dead hard drive looks and sounds like. I tried a bunch of recovery tools, stuck it in the freezer overnight, changed out the circuit board...it was not coming back.

So I get her a new hard drive, my cost. I install Windoze on it, at work, again my cost. I load AOL 10.1 on it, which turned out to NOT be the version she wanted (she only knows 9.0). Again, my time and cost.

I installed VNC server on it. She asked what the icon was, I told her that was so I could get into her computer from home if she broke something and needed help.

Well, she has this friend, a horse of a woman, who did not like that this woman and I were spending time together and it was cutting into her time.

This friend is a systems manager at a big mortgage house here in town. Now, this is SLOWcala, you don't need brains to manage something here, you just need to stay long enough to outlast everyone else. I'm proof of that. :)

This friend tells her "he can sit and watch what you're doing on your computer with that".

Um, no, I can't. First you need to know the IP of the computer you're going into, she's on cable so it's DHCP and changes. Would have to call her and ask her to go to IPCHICKEN and tell me what it was. Second, I set it up so the first time she used it it would ask for a password she would choose and give to me, then she could change it. Third, when someone is in your system with VNC you can see what someone is doing, like the cursor moving around, etc.

Who do you think she believed? Me or her friend? Think she's smart enough to realize her friend is sticking a knife in the relationship?

She e-mails me and tells me she KNOWS I've been watching her, and she hopes I liked what I saw. Then she blocks e-mail on the site, and deletes without reading mail sent to her home addy.

    DUMB WOMEN...AARGH!

Anyways I've met a couple more and am in the process of "interviewing" :)

LOL her "computer expert" friend wouldn't have found that I'd wager.

Its not "is the girl crazy".... its "how crazy is the girl"

I lucked up and found one that hasn't shown any crazy yet.... I actually haven't seen any craziness in a whole year but I know ONE DAY it will peak its ugly head out.

Im keeping my fingers crossed that it won't happen for a long time.

Dude - good luck on those sites... I did that for a while and finally gave up. But then once I gave up, I randomly met the woman of my dreams.... Once you just give up and go about your business - the right one will come along... at least - that has been my experience.

Good advice, I may take it very soon.

Just, there are NO women in my neighborhood, NO available women where I work, and all I know here are married to my friends (some lines you just don't cross)!

Be glad..... as it probably wasn't meant to be. The last thing you need in a relationship is a pyscho girlfriend on the sidelines.

As my mother used to always say, you'll find someone when you least expect it.

The thing you need is exposure to people - and I don't mean the local bar. What other hobbies are you into? Look for and join some local clubs of the hobbies you enjoy. You'll get exposure to more people who have similar interests.

    Don't get discouraged!!
I met my husband through a mutual group of friends I met from the computer. Yeah....this was befroe the internet existed. There were local computers that you logged into and played online games. The groups of people got together often. Great fun and met a lot of great people (other than my husband).

Hell, ask your married friends if they have any single friends/relatives. :D

I met my wife through one of those dating sites, but it was kinda by chance. We both snuck out AIM SN's into our profiles. She figured mine out and IM'd me. Figured if she was smart enough to figure out the clue then she was worth talking too! :D We started talking and managed to check out each other's profiles for a couple days before they were both deleted for TOS violations. (Took the sites' admins a few days to figure the clues out too. heh) We ended up chatting online for about 2 weeks before meeting in person. I was tired of meeting people I had to change for or didn't like some small quirk about me. So I didn't hold any punches and laid it out exactly as I saw it and how I felt about things. She did the same and we ended up meeting. I crashed at her house that night since I worked a few miles away, and lived about 30-40 miles away. I had to work again the next morning I think so she told me I could crash there, but to be warned she slept naked. I said I did too, and well, you can imagine what happened that night.

It also helped that her 3yr old daughter imediately attached to me while she normally hated anyone her mom brought home before.

    ^^ Good Advice ^^

My brother is going through the same thing! Actually came up to visit yesterday after meeting a girl he had been conversing with. He said more than likely not going to go anywhere.... its tough especially when we get older.... the budda's book to dating is a great little book.... free cultural events like art hops, waterfront festivals, outdoor clubs, not sure if you have local weekend scene paper where you live in Florida (we do here in VT called seven days) which has a huge calendar of the happenings in the city. When you least expect it BAM it will find you...... wish you the best!

It's hard....I remember going through spells of being depressed & such. Seeing all your friends find nice people. Hell, I couldn't even get a date!!
Then you start asking yourself, "What's wrong with me?"
I had to come to grips w/ myself to enjoy life regardless. Once I stopped worrying about it..... that's when thing turned around.

    Good Luck!
