Auto start? To automatically open on the desktop? Or to auto log in?

Looks like the default desktop is lxde, and lxterminal is the app you want to automatically open.

Use nano to edit lxde's autostart file:
    Code:
    sudo nano ~/.config/lxsession/LXDE/autostart

add the line @lxterminal, and then hit ctrl+x to save the file.

All of my frustrations have been fixed so far by switching to openelec instead of raspbian

Only a few hours into openelec but so far ok

I haven't played with either Raspbian or OpenELEC. The only time I've played with Linux on an Arm device was Debian on a couple Android phones.

OpenElec is OK, have to run SSH to get into terminal now but that's OK. Hopefully I won't have to change many things once I get everything running. Considering buying another rpi3 to play with. Amazing what people do with them
