I've done a little more research - I don't think my high-dollar lift plan is that great.

I'm thinking about doing something a little more budget friendly.

What do you guys thinks about the following:

    • OME BP-51 Lift Kit
    • SPC Upper Control Arms

The OME BP-51 setup seems like a good bang for your buck. You're getting adjustable coilovers and a full leaf pack included with the kit. I am also familiar with OME as I had it on my 1st gen and I have it on my Land Cruiser. I think it would be a large step up from the OEM Toyota OR Bilsteins.

I'm trying to fit 285/70/17 tires on my TRD Pro 4R SEMA wheels. Will this lift plan work?

I've also considered just going with a conventional OME spring and strut combo to really save some cash.

Don’t like the fact that OME BP setup uses 51mm piston vs other setups use 60mm piston.

    What would you suggest instead?

Do I need a lift? Of course not. The only things I "need" are food, water, air, shelter, and sunlight. But that's rather boring.

I take your point about the warranty, but let's limit the discussion to whether this suspension package would be an upgrade. Or what you would suggest over the OEM Bilstein setup.

I'd honestly suggest keeping it stock. These trucks are very capable in stock form. I know that might sound boring but that is my advice/opinion.

I ditched the 5160's within less than 2 months after I installed the 8112's, There's no comparison.

The Bilstein 8112’s were a were a better choice. Another alternate would be ADS, but the technology in the Billy’s is unique and supposedly really good.

    Roger that.

Someone previously suggested doing the 8112 up front, and the 5160s in the rear.

Point taken. I move slow though. I'll probably research for another year before I pull the trigger on anything. Just trying to decide what to do. Probably going with Bilsteins. Not sure what series. And also not sure what upper control arms I want.

The problem with the 5160’s is the Dakars will droop more than the shock can down travel which could ruin the shock. Pay once cry once

    All depends on your needs

What shock would be a better match for the Dakars? 5100s?

If you go with the extended travel 5100, yes.

Consider this though and some may not agree, but let this logic sink in.

That rear axle weighs ALOT and is moving up and down ALOT when going over bumps on washboard roads. Do you really want to put the cheapest shock in the rear?

I did good front coilovers first and then added nice rears later when I could afford it.

OME rear vs extended travel ADS rear
    0586CC3E-F638-4711-978E-FFAC8C036BEB.jpg

At full droop the ADS shock shows 10” of shock rod , the OME shock rod was like 7-8”. So when going over obstacles the droop has more room to stay in contact with a surface. To start out the extended 5100’s may be ideal...wish I did that in the first place instead of the OME rears

Well, the 5100s aren’t the cheapest shock, that’s the OEM 4600s (or non-OR shocks). But I understand what you are saying.

Maybe I should just bite the bullet and go for the 8100/8112 setup. What rear springs match the 8100 shocks?

6112 front and 5160 rear are back in stock at headstrong and some other vendors. Buy it now otherwise they will sell out everywhere as usual. They use a 60mm and are priced right for the performance. Or just buy 6112 and 5100 in the rear if you looking for just lift and mall crawling.

Or just buy the 8112/8100. Currently using 6112/8100s and icon RXT leaf pack option 3.

I just checked their website and it says out of stock? Is their website incorrect? What other vendors have them in stock?

I’m dumb. I was looking at their complete kits. They’re sold out of the 5160 rear shocks, not the 6112 front shocks.

Rears don’t have springs unless you have a 4Runner. The Dakar leaf packs are great. I run the medium 6-leaf pack.

Honestly, if you aren’t doing technical off-roading or driving 80mph thru the desert woops you would probably be fine with the extended length 5100’s...they have a slightly different number like 5110 or something

Yessir. But the rear shocks need to be properly paired together with the correct rear leaf springs, right?

I thought you said to match the Dakar Medium leaf pack with extended length 5100s, so the shocks wouldn’t bottom out?

So I was asking what leaf pack to pair the 8100s with so I don’t over-extend the shock.

I may still go with the 5100s though.

I also just glanced at the OME BP-51s on HeadStrong’s website. It’s a killer package deal - Includes full Dakar Medium rear leaf springs, full install kit w/ U-bolts and bushings, and free upper control arms, all for less than the Bilstein 8100 kit without any extras.

Basically a turn-key coilover lift kit for $3,200. Crazy bang for your buck.
