Unless it's a single cab SAS'd. That would be a fun project.

2nd gen is what I was thinking of. Don’t see too many with the 2nd gen body. Gut it and swap in a Honda K20 or k24 to scream on the rev limiter and that would be a hell of a build.

We have proper rock crawling here in Hawaii, some of the best Ive wheeled. We might not have trails that go for miles and miles but the ones we have are as technical and extreme as any trail can be. Ive wheeled Fordyce and the lots of that area so Im not just saying that to blow smoke.

But that said most guys here dont wheel their trucks that hard.

I think that is relative to a few factors, like having a group to go with to help if something breaks, having a trailer to get the thing home if it breaks, and having the money, time, or skill to fix things if they break. If you are wheeling alone in the middle of no where with no cell service, yeah, you are going to be smart and cautious about how hard you wheel.

My build is designed about reliability and self recovery, I wanted things to be stronger and more reliable than stock, not to be the most aggressive rock crawler possible, but something I was confident would get me home at the end of the day.

That's the catch though, why would someone buy a $$$ LT kit for their shit box crawler? They would rebuild a used axle and SAS it and trailer the thing to the trail. The benefit of the RCLT and other LT kits is that you retain all the factory features like ABS, auto locking hubs, and a smooth ride on the highway. It is for trucks that still have windows, A/C, and can cruise through a city, then engage 4WD with a lever or a switch.

The same reason at least 50% of the membership here spends copious amounts of money on their trucks. Because they want to. :notsure:
There's better platforms out there to go balls to the walls on the rocks, but we're all here to push the envelope of what we got and what we like.

I agree with you, I guess to clarify my point, because this thread is about the RCLT kit, which isn't made for anything older than a 2nd Gen Tacoma.

@amg_t4r on instagram seems to be breaking quite a bit with his RCLT setup.

I laugh when I see guys bragging on here about how they wheel hard with 37's on a stock rack and IFS and 2k lbs of crap stuck on their truck. Then you watch them perpetually work on the steering rack and wonder why it blew the teeth off the R&P. I barely feel good about my 8" mini truck diff and outers with 3RZ power on 37's. Much less with an extra 100hp and 2k lbs of curb weight.

Accurate coming from the guy who just bought a 2nd gen on 37’s with a blown rack.

Maybe shit box conjures up the wrong images. I have AC, trailer it etc. but here lately have been treating it like one haha I’m just curious to see more folks beat on it like they would a SAS and report back. That might be hard to find since most wheeling that hard might skip over such an expensive IFS kit.

I think I wheeled with that white truck at AOP in April? It left on a trailer it didn’t come on.

It was at AOP. I brought it on a trailer and wheeled it, but left with another guy’s 2nd gen that blew the rear diff. He drove my white truck home. Lol.

I used to have a 77 on tons/3rz/42s so used to just rock bounce the truck up anything, but my 3gt with duals/37s, I still haven't broken one thing, doubted I do baby it up most things. Still have the factory cv's/rack, and the take the truck up pretty much anything with the big ass truck being the limiting factor. 8.75 diff seems pretty tough so far

I think the words steering rack/rock crawling should be forgotten and never go together, as even with the bigger racks you still have no steering power when bound up, and they will still just blow up.

Ill be doing either full hydro on my ifs or straight axleing mine in a year or two, probably straight axle since that's what I come from and think Ifs is a joke in general, unless you have u4 money and a tube chassis.

It can be done but you're right it's firmly in the U4 range and even those guys bitch about how much the constant maintenance sucks on IFS. The 4600 class Broncos were running $20k in 74Weld portal boxes just for the front this year in addition to swing set steering. Geiser quoted $77.5k plus you drop off your Bronco to re-create Gitten's fun haver that Geiser built.
