I had a 2014 Tundra 5.7 4wd and now I have a 2017 Tacoma OR. So I drive same routes to work, about 70% city / 30 % highway type driving. The difference is 4-5 mpg more in the Tacoma.

I would hope the Taco gets more in the MPG department...but When I push the throttle on that 5.7 all of that care about MPG goes away and a grin comes to my face :D

I’m not sure why I like my Tacoma more than my Tundra....it’s sure not the 3-4 mpg more I get..... it’s not comfort as I’m 6’4” 260lb, and the Tundra has more room everywhere....hmmmmmmmm

The way the Tacoma seat sits is pretty cool for long legs. And I ordered mine with no moonroof. First for headroom and second because I never use the moonroof:).
Coverts I use !! Moonroof nooooo

If you're in CA, you pay a lot extra for shittier gas, too... keep that in mind.

I was replying to OP who wanted to know the difference. Throwing Tundra mpg numbers at him probably makes little sense since everyone will get different numbers in most cases. I figured since I drive same routes and routines and have had both trucks the difference in MPG is probably the best way to tell him what to expect. If we are going to be honest, Tacoma isn't very good on gas either all things considered.

Pops drives a 2011 tundra 5.7 with 4.30 gears crew max bone stock. Load range E michelins. 14 around town, 17-18 hwy, 9 towing. My wife has the sequoia, 4.6 with 3.90? gears... 16 around town, 20 hwy. These trucks HATE speeds over 65 mph. Hwy mileage dies at 75mph. I love my Taco, but if I had it to do over, I should have gone access cab tundra for the same money.

Yup I’ll agree on mileage. I can set my cruise at 75 on highway (18 5.7 CM 4.30 Kbros) and will maintain 17ish average, but if I even think about going above it begins to drop. If not for reverse facing kiddos I would have gone DC tundra too

Wish I could pull the trigger on selling my taco for a tundra... If I could do it over, Tundra for sure.

I will never knock my taco for what it is. If you stay in the parameters of it's design it is an amazing vehicle. When I bought it I really didn't do much heavy work with it and I had the wife's sequoia for towing the camper. Now that I am thinking about trading the sequoia, I fear the Taco will start coming up short more often. The next truck will likely be a crewmax tundra. I am tempted by the "forbidden fruit" and I keep looking at a Ram 2500 Cummins. It is $2500 more and sometimes a wash when you price them out. I don't "need" a diesel, I really don't want to inherit the expensive maintenance: oil changes, def fluid, fuel filters, and higher priced fuel. I also just don't think the dodge will hold up as far as little bullshit that breaks. Toyotas cost more up front and pay you back as you go. I won't sell my taco and it owes me nothing at this point. I thought about a Titan, but I just can't trust them from what I read. I looked at an eco diesel RAM, but they have their issues as well. Chevy and Ford are sworn off and I refuse to even think about it. I still have nightmares from my 2003 GMC duramax. Amazing drivetrain in a SHIT truck. Time will tell, my gut says tundra.

    It’s never too late :D
Coming from a Cummins nut and multiple Cummins owner, unless you absolutely need one, don’t buy one. It will eat you alive in maintenance. Buy you a Tundra and be happy :D

Thanks @Iamraiderpower... I had a dura max years ago in 2003. I am not up to speed on the new DEF crap and the other BS. It is hard for my head to wrap around the fact that I can have a 2500 diesel tradesman for nearly the same money. Way more capability, but I really don't "need" the truck. I know from the past that even with the old diesel everything costs more in a diesel. It is why I went to Toyota. I have been spoiled by the trouble free life that the Toyotas have provided. It's that whole supersize it marketing that I have to walk away from... I only need to drink 12oz of pop, 64oz are just gonna make me have to take a piss 20 miles down the road.

Well you are on the right track with your thinking. I could have easily put my ass right back in another Cummins, and boy did I want one after they bought back my F1shitty. I was looking at a new 2500 6spd cummins, but then logic and my pocketbook stopped me. I have no need for a diesel right now, or the near future so the costs couldnt be offset, and plus I just effing hate the post 07 diesel shit. I know right now the Tundra is outdated to most, but I will say I love my 18 Tundra Dinosaur more than any truck ive ever owned, and Ive owned A LOT. Sometimes a dinosaur is better than the new fancy shit. I know a redesign is coming soon, but who knows when.
