I had my right wheel bearing replaced at about 100,000. Wasn't cheap, was about $900 from the dealer. but it fixed the problem.

    Question...

I'm at a "TW trusted" shop in town. Quoted just under $500 out the door to replace my wheel bearing.

However... He's already laying the seed that once he gets in there, the bad bearing potentially damaged the hub, and claims that'll be another $200 (if necessary)... Said he won't know until he starts replacing it, and if so, it'll be just the part, won't charge for labor, cuz already doing the bearing job.

NO one here has mentioned anything like that while talking about or replacing a wheel bearing.

What's the chances as soon as I leave he says it's bad, and bumps me to $700. Sigh!

No clunking and I didn't have any play when I checked it. Hopefully it's ok.

Even if it's not, a hub shouldn't be $200. lol

Did you mention the type and size tires you currently have? I have seen bad wheel bearing act up more when turning one way or the other. The sound will change when the weight transfers.

All fixed up. No hidden charges, no abs sensor charges (which shouldn't be more than $30, anyways). All good.

My sound was a bad wheel bearing at 97k miles. front passenger side. All fixed.

If you sold it with bad bearings and didn’t disclose it to new buyer, shame on you.

Lol no they ended up shaming me.
Sold it to a couple of meth heads for $300. 6 months later I get a bill for towing it off the street to an impound lot. Turns out they never transferred the title, lived out of it for a few months and ditched it for whatever reason, leaving me to pick up the pieces.
I did tell them everything wrong with it, and sold it for a very, very fair price.

Edit: Congrats op on fixing your truck!!

Actually, I did have an update to share.

The shop said my wheel bearing assembly was pretty rusted, and rust was inside the bearing, which was likely what made all the noise. He said he was expecting worse because of the sound it was making, but it wasn't as bad as he thought it'd be.

So, now I'm wondering why there was so much rust in my wheel bearing. I live in Vegas, where it gets hot as hell and rarely rains. Yeah, I take it to Utah in the snow often, and mudding at my cabin, but that's only a few times a year. I guess that's all it takes, maybe, but is there something I can do to prevent rust on the other side?
