How in the world are you supposed to get it back on? Is it even needed if all of the plastic trim tabs are in place?

With a little extra work you can just dissemble the bumper and have full access to that clip. Been a while but the extra steps are: Need to pop out the license plate lights, remove the license plate (to get to fasteners behind it), remove the trailer plug, if equipped, and take the black cover off. Couple more bolts (4 per side) and the side bumper pieces should come off.

Awesome, thanks to both of you. I got them replaced without the alligator clips but I’m twitchy knowing not all the parts are on, LOL.

If i remember correctly, I dangled them from a piece of tape from above and reached up to push them on. Not particularly easy...

Some tool hit me in a parking lot this winter and destroyed one of my bumper caps. I followed this general process and got them swapped out nicely and it was a heck of a lot easier to put the alligator clips on with the base support piece off. Thanks for the tips!
