I was thinking of trading someone a base model rear bumper for my chrome one, but I have a few questions about that. Can I just hook up the hitch to the new rear bumper, his doesn't have a hitch. Also there is a blemish on the center plastic part below the license plate. Is this piece replaceable?

The hitch included with the factory tow package is not connected to the bumper.. you can swap the bumpers. Plastic is replaceable

Where can I get the replacement plastic? And is it just glued on?

Plastic pieces are held in by clips. When you have the bumper off you will see how they pop into the metal. Try ebay for bumper plastic I'm not sure where else to look. Try your local junkyard also.

Actually some of them are attached to the bumper (Hidden Hitch, Toyota factory). Mine from Uhaul is.

Well when I took my bumper off the hitch stayed attached to the frame and stayed right where it was. There are two bolts that connect the bumper and the hitch under the license plate but they are not really load bearing. The tow hitch is attached to the frame underneath the truck. However I think there might be a couple of ways to swap bumpers.

Hello. I'm a newbie wondering the same thing about switching bumpers. I want to put a black base model rear bumper in place of the chrome bumper of the trd o/r. I don't have a hitch and it is 2005. My question is do I need a 2005 base model bumper or can it be another year? And is it easy to swap them (can I do it at home)?

If you are wanting a black bumper and have no luck at the junk yard, you can get one from Toyota Parts Barn for under $200 shipped.

Part number is 5215104907 . You have to re-use the black plastic and the braces inside the bumper, but it's only a 1 hour job or so. I've been happy with mine.
