Hoping people with a tire carrier on the swing out arm of their rear bumper can give me some feedback on what I'm experiencing with mine. I got dual swing out arms on my rear bumper from SOS Offroad. This is my first time with an aftermarket bumper. So I'm not sure if this is normal, but I feel like there is just to much play or movement on the tire carrier.

I've tightened the bumper mount, swing out mount, swing out latch, and tire bolts all down. But I can still shake the tire and swing out arm up and down. This is with very little force with my hand on the tire. The end of the bumper bends a little when I shake the tire. The problem is especially bad when I'm driving on the highway. Depending on the road, the tire/swing out arm can start shaking and because of it moving up and down I can feel it jerking the back end of the truck.

Just wondering if this is normal. I appreciate any input from you guys.

Doesn't matter the brand or type. I just want to know if its normal for a tire mount to shake up and down under normal driving conditions.

When I first installed mine it shook a little when driving. It's nice and broke in now and shakes a lot more. Custom made from scraps by a drunk guy in his Yard though... he claimed to be a welder.

Pretty sure most swingout setups shake, kinda just the nature of the beast. There is a ton of leverage from that heavy tire being kinda far from the pivot point.

I have the same problem with the swingout on my 4Runner. Especially cruising highway speeds on concrete freeways, it can really get going and bounce the back of the truck pretty good. I feel it much less when the truck is loaded. When my wifey took over my 4Runner a few months back I downsized tires for drive-ability reasons and since the spare is now smaller it shakes much less.

Anyone find a remedy for this? I just installed a tire carrier on my '16 taco and the whole damn truck shakes like crazy on concrete highways.

mine doesnt shake with a 35 on it.
question on your rack, when you are shaking it, where do you see the play at? the hinge? the lock?
what type of hinge is that? mine is a double tapered bearing setup, so theres little play.

sorry, didnt notice you bumped a old thread. so is it your carrier thats moving while driving? or the whole truck? by the sound of what you said, it sounds just like its your truck bouncing around. not the carrier.

That’s strange, I have a HC rear with swingout and 285/75 spare and the only bounce I get is over speed bumps.. but it’s the whole carrier bouncing and slamming down. Try removing the spare and testing it?

Same kind of movement with a Wilco Hitchgate in a 2" receiver. There is some flex but no shake, no noise.
