FORScan makes an OBDII plug in for Ford, Lincoln, Mazda, etc. that allows you to go into the vehicle's computer and change certain coding. The example I saw, the man increased his merge signal from 3 blinks to 5, turned off Ford's sound augmentation, adjusted the resistance to run LED headlights since the truck was already compatible, turned off auto start/stop, etc.

Is there something similar for Toyota? I apologize if that has already been talked about here, I just came across this thread and have been interested. I, too, would love the option to use my locker in at least 4HI. Ford even allows it in 2WD for their 4x4 F150.

Nope, the 4WD system has its own ECU that we don't seem to have access to. Techstream is the dealer software that is roughly the equivalent of what you are talking about, and is also similar to VAGCom for VW/Audi. Techstream is nowhere near as sophisticated though.

Just to reiterate for people. The only way I can reasonably figure out to give anytime lock and maintain ECU control of the system is with a microprocessor based system. 2lo was found to be able to accomplished on the 3rd gen with electromechanical control, but I dont think there is any elegant similar way for anytime lock in 3rd gen.

@lapoltba, you may want to consider if it's possible to also create a version for people who have done an FJ transfer case swap in their 3rd gen. I believe it would be VERY close to the anytime lock version if not identical. Not many people would want it, but I bet it would be a favorite for the few to eliminate the codes and give crawl control/ATrac/MTS back for OR/Pro

    Absofuckinlutely!
It was so simple on the first gen... And hands down my favorite mod! I kinda miss the old girl...Screenshot_20200717-222052.jpg

I do love my VFTuned 3rd gen though.IMG_20200703_153018100.jpg

Someone had actually asked me about that recently I think. I think he was having a manual transfer case swap done and wanted to retain the locker functionality. He bought one of the 2LM harnesses as a no-cut starting point.

Realistically, there is zero difference for the FJ case. The locker would just be 100% controlled by me. I can probably have a solder jumper to distinguish between a stock TC and a Swapped one.

Would, (could), this just be an add on for those that already have the 2LO mod, (only the cost of the new hardware), or would we have to pull the old unit and install the new one?
Or asked a different way; Is this modular, so a person could add it on at a later date, if the don't want or need it now, but may some time in the future?

$250 sounds reasonable to me for both 2low and rear diff anytime... count me in when you get it ready for sale!

Unfortunately no. Unless you are comfortable splicing into your existing 2LM harness to get at the necessary wires. In addition, I am thinking I can make this work without the need for an additional 2LM switch as well.

To enable 2LM the sequence would be something like this:
    1. Move the selector knob to 4Hi, and back to 2Hi twice within 3 seconds.
    2. The 4x4 selector switch lights will flash indicating you have successfully enabled the mod. (This is a possibility, I have to see if it is realistic or not.)
    3. Do the normal switch to 4Lo (2lo now).

To go back, I think I can make it so it just works as normal to switch back to 2Hi. Locker would work as usual in 4Lo and 2Lo.

Locker in 2Hi and 4Hi would be a long press (or something) of your existing locker switch. Another long press would turn it off. Switching to 4Lo would turn it off so you the 4x4 ECU can take over again.

I keep thinking that an Arduino might be the way to go to get this to happen.

That sounds pretty clean. I’m betting there will be a number of 2lo mod kits show up in the BST forum after this kit releases.

There is software that does this for Toyota to alter the blinks and door chimes and that sort of stuff. But, it does not have any control of the 4wd system.

You can read all about the Toyota version here. It doesn't allow any control or options with the 4wd system.
