I recently called 2 local Toyota dealerships and they both use NAPA 80w-90. They buy it in bulk 5 gallon jugs. Thought I would use the same stuff Toyota uses in case I would ever have warranty issues. I changed both diffs @ 50k. The service manuals weren’t very specific on intervals.

It really depends on how you use the truck. If you wheel a lot your diff is going to get a lot hotter than if you just commute around town every day and the oil won't last nearly as long (especially if youre submerging the diff in water without a breather extension). I change mine every 25k because I use it pretty hard but 50 -60k for normal everyday driving is fine

Good deal I'm glad to hear that. I also bought a set of metal washers for the rear diff and a pump.

    What is the ECGS debacle?

I'm just about to order a 3rd and clamshell from ECGS and am wondering which oil would be best to use. Yes, I've asked ECGS and they said 85W-140 even though I'm far north and don't get too hot in the summer (85-90*F) and can get pretty cold in the winter (-4 to -22F) but I am wondering if it's overkill for my needs. I will have 4.56 gears and Harrop lockers front and rear. Is there that much of a difference between the 80W-90 and 85W-140?
