Yeah, when I take mine in, at minimum I would like a new gasket put in, not just re-torque the bolts, which is what I'm afraid that's all they're going to do.

Have like 500 miles until my 15k service, so I think I'm going to take it in in a couple of weeks, and have them try and "fix" it. Going to bring my own new rear diff and front end fluid to change out as well, so maybe they'll be a little more willing to put a new gasket in, since I'm already paying some labor cost for front and rear end fluid changes... At the very least, I'll know the fuild is at the proper level in the rear end when I leave.

On a separate note, I think I'll have them finally check my transmission fuild level as well... Last time I brought it up (when I had them flash the Rev. 1 TSB), they said it would have to sit for like 6 hours to completely cool down to properly check it.

    going to be fun!
I think Toyota is taking a wait and see attitude with the amount of Off Roads they are seeing in this recall....

And BTW I think I was on the verge of being tossed by the Dealership but I think that day is coming when it truly happens....

Dealer says they did not find an active leak and that the stain is not diff fluid. Sent me on my way after spending 2 hours with it.

    Well, I'm sitting here waiting.

    Things to note.

*You CAN decline the recall, customer discretion, cite time constraints if so...
I explained that I need my truck for a road trip and that if they broke off a stud that I would break off a foot because if they snap a stud, instant purgatory for your truck.

*Service writer, when pressed, spilled the beans that this was a factory fubar as a result of under torqued nuts on the carrier studs. Once the leak begins, you really can't stop it unless you overtorque the fasteners which we all know the end result of, see other threads.

So I just have them doing the 5k with the understanding that I will follow up if a leak develops or 10K which ever occurs first.

Thoughts on taking truck in prior to remedy and June letter: You may get a fix that is not the fix. This would mostly apply to the trucks not on the recall, because it sounds like for the most part they are holding the trucks that are on the recall with leaks. If they change the hardware, torque spec, gasket or something else you will be doing it again.

They took in the truck and are opening a ticket with corporate to see what they should do with it since its not technically "recalled". I'm also having them apply the latest TSB revision for the transmission. I am happy with the first one, but I figured the revision couldn't hurt (RIGHT?!?! PLEASE DONT MAKE IT BAD AGAIN TOYOTA).

Just picked up my truck. Service manager said I was lucky, 11 tacos sitting waiting for the green light. Take in consideration a couple months back I did take the truck in because it was starting to leak from the diff so they went ahead and replaced the gasket. When I got the call that I needed to take my truck in for a recall issue I did explain to them that I had already taking it in But they still wanted me to bring it in anyway

Take it to another dealer. They just don't want to hold your truck and rent you a car because the recall fix authorization is not in yet.

I also had the Rev B. transmission update done and I can't tell a huge difference because I always drive it like I stole it. I just hope it solves the upshift hang in cruise control.

I noticed slight weeping from my diff. Took it to the dealer this morning. They re- torqued the bolts and sent me on my way. I was there for a whole hour. I feel bad for the guys whose trucks are being held. Way to go Toyota.

I Love my Tacoma but for the 1st time I'm having buyers remorse. I also have the wind noise at hwy speeds, hard bottom seats and the plastic interiors scratch easy compared to 2014 Tacoma I had before.

Had my recall done today. No leaks, no problems. This dealership has yet to see a single Tacoma with a leaking rear diff. Service advisor said that if there's a leak, the fix is to replace the gasket and re-torque. Sounded like a simple and effortless process. None of that "we don't know what the fix is, nor an ETA for it" that a lot of guys in the US are hearing.

All the dealers know what the fix is. They haven't been authorized by Toyota to perform the fix as they are (Toyota) getting all the "recall parts" ready and also most likely an accounting and paperwork process than anything else. The dealers had the remedy listed in day 1 in the dealer recall information sent by Toyota.
