Just saying that to not pass any judgement on your truck until it's here to determine first hand whether there's an issue or not. If you continue to worry and 2nd guess your decision based on what people post here, you're in for a very long and anxiety ridden wait. You may even just convince yourself not to accept a very good truck.

They don't make them like they used to. Corporate America has become extremely greedy the last several years.Nothing is built to last anymore. Appliances that used to last 25 to 30 years now only last 8 to 10 years as an example.

Propping up Billionaires is very expensive .

People are more fickle these days, most don't keep the same house or same job for more than 8 - 10 years anymore either.

Mine is on the recall list and currently at the dealer until parts arrive. Of course no ETA so I'll be in a rental until then. I'll chime back in this thread when the recall is complete.

Agreed. I really like my third gen but my 2001 was way more rugged had a mostly boxed frame, and the sheet metal on the bed wouldn't dent if you looked at it wrong. If I get 250,000 miles out of the third gen wit only tires, breaks and routine maitince like I did with my first gen then I'll eat my words. Only time will tell.

Yeah but you also don't have anywhere near the technology to go wrong in that 1st gen either. My 04 is almost the exact same truck as my 91 and 99 were, the 16 is a whole different truck with a lot more complexity.

Technology aside the older gens were built tougher at least on the frame and body panels.

Face it, Toyota trucks are a horror show. Can't believe I've owned 5 in 30 years!

Yes I know, glutton for punishment and I'll keep buying them but I have always gone into those purchases with realistic expectations on what the trucks can and can't do. They've always been popular, usually better than the rest but have never been perfect .

I think with these new Chevrolet midsizes, the new ford ranger, and this new jeep pick up midsize coming . We might finally have some other choices.
Drum brakes in this year seems so ridiculous to me

if I remember correctly Toyota was replacing the frame on these trucks for free or buying them back for 2x bluebook value. Either way Toyota made it right. And I believe these trucks were only having is issue when they spent their life in colder climates with winter road salting .

That doesn't support the argument that they were built better back then, only that Toyota has a history of trying to correct their deficiencies.

I honestly don't see why people get hung up on discs in the rear. I really don't have a problem with drums back there. The truck stops fine with the way it is.

Sure it would be a little better, but I'm not bothered by the fact it doesn't have rear discs.

I understand and of course you're welcome to your opinion but doesn't it seem unusual that they're the only manufacture thats still clinging on to drum brakes. Not to get in the physics but there is no argument disc brakes are better than drum brakes. I had an uncle who had a 1975 Ford F250 with drum brakes in the front he purchased it new and he didn't want the fancy 1976 disc brakes. Haha did he live to regret that.
And let's fast-forward a little bit when they do introduce disc brakes. Toyota is gonna have 1 million reasons why they're better.
I'll give you the fender Pole example , when they had the antenna mounted on the fender they said it offered better reception blah blah blah which we all knew was BS because the Lexus vehicles had no antenna and they work fine. Then the next generation comes with no antenna and all of a sudden it's a big upgrade and much better than the pole antenna blah blah blah and the same thing will happen when Toyota finally gets around to doing disc brakes.

People probably get upset about drum brakes because the price of the truck is on the high side.

I agree and when comparing to every other brand it's discouraging that you're buying the only truck that's available with drums, the only one ! Drum brakes are much more difficult to work on, they get poor gas mileage because of the friction loss if you do some research when disc brakes first started to come out you'll find out there's huge advantages to disk over drum especially in a truck or Offroad or any wet conditions there really is no argument other than cost.
