Has anyone's rear differential leaked after it was repaired under the recall?

mine was done awhile back, but I noticed my rear differential is leaking again. I think it may be because they only tightened the rear bolts not put a new gasket in. any ideas? Heading to toyota today anyway so it can be documented.

Could this qualify as leaking Diff? My truck is a 2017 Sport Manual. My Vin did not have any open recalls. 13,900 miles.

Did you have it fixed? Mine has a similar leak but was told it was not on the recall list.

Yes, got it fixed and I Wasn't on the recall either but I was still sleeping fluid. They should fix it anyways. My dealer even performed a TSB for 6MT that I had absolutely no knowledge of.

Took mine in for 10K check and told them to check rear differential for leak/seeping. Not part of recall but dealer said needs seals replaced and waiting on parts. Will have to drop off again for repairs. No photos but mine had minor seeping around front seal of diff.

Tried searching, but not the greatest on my phone.

Has anyone with a 2018 had the leak? I noticed this afternoon a very slight stain on my 2018 SR5 rear diff. Would rather not go back to dealer as my 5k service was done a few weeks ago and it would be trip number 5 in a little more than half a year...

I just want to confirm 18lbft is correct and not 33. Going to check a few of the nuts. If they are loose I’ll go back to dealer (blah). If not I’ll monitor to see if it gets worse.

Yes my 2018 is weeping. Had my 10 000 mile service last week and told them to check the rear differential as I had noticed 2 small leaks. They didn't have time to do it the day of my service but I am booked for this Thursday to have the gasket replaced.

Good to know, thanks! I am going to check the fluid level this weekend and go from there. Pretty painless to get them to replace the gasket?

Have you guys gotten it back yet? I just took mine in today but I'm afraid it's going to take a while and I'm planning to hit the trails in Colorado next month with it. I'm located in TX btw, idk if location has anything to do with how long it takes.

Yeah, I got mine fixed. Took it in one day and I got to keep the truck till parts came in the next day. I guess it depends on how busy your dealership is, how serious your leak is and how strict the dealership is adhering to safety.

That gives me hope then. I don't want to be waiting a month like some people did.

Noticed this morning gassing up... At 14k miles will bring up the weeping at the 15k visit here soon. Does anyone readily have the recall pdf for manual trans differentials?

Took my truck in today for service. I had the recall repair on my leaking differential one year ago. I noticed yesterday what looked like dampness near the differential gasket. The dealer took a look at today and called it “shadowing”. Service advisor said it was the first time he heard of the term but said that corporate claimed “shadowing” to be normal and noted in the computer that they would recheck next time i come in for service in order to see if the “shadowing” is worse. If it is it would be repaired under warranty. Anyone ever heard of this term?

    I do
I can't find the TSB right now. This was part of a recall so you can check here:
    https://www.toyota.com/recall

If you are part of the recall and you are leaking then you will get replacement gaskets. If you are part of the recall but are not leaking then they will only retighten the bolts.

My truck was not part of the recall but I was still weeping some fluid regardless so I took it in and was covered anyways. Check my earlier posts for pics of my leaking diff. Compare them to your diff.

My truck is covered by the recall. I took it in for it 18 month service and they said this is not leaking. I showed my photo to the manager and he sent it back to the shop, who said this was normal. They torqued and cleaned it up and sent me on my way. Now I can’t even tell if it is leaking!
