Something name brand. Like Pearl or Tama. I used to use Spaun, but I don’t think they’re around anymore

You’re not wrong. It’s just the expansion doesn’t mess with brake feel or performance, it does however exacerbate failures in worst case scenarios.

Won't make any difference worth the trouble. Rear braking on a Tacoma is maybe 10-15% when fully loaded and the only scenario where you should see any fade is towing heavy loads on a long downward grade. Even then, you should be taking advantage of engine braking and not riding the brakes or getting a larger pickup if you do such towing regularly.

It was more for when I am loaded with gear. I’ve already boiled my breaks once and that was using gears and braking coming down a hill

Probably cooked the fronts too then. Unless you're crazy overloaded, you really shouldn't be feeling the rears.

I boiled my fluid to the point the pedal was going to the floor and I could only slow the truck but not stop it. Since then the front have been upgraded as well as fluid from that stock DOT3 garbage to DOT4

Search for it. Someone did an in depth write-up of adding the 4runner brakes to the taco.

Ok. I guess I'll just take your word for it. The rest of the internet seems to disagree with you, but since you said so; so it must be.

One of us in this conversation has been a heavy truck brake and suspension technician and wrenched for 8+ years. Be a passive aggressive twat but the internet is not the wealth of knowledge you think it is unless you actually know how to interpret what you're reading. You're taking information on passenger cars and presenting it as universal - it's just not the case.

Well if you're boiling brake fluid then I think you have bigger issues. The temp improvement of DOT 4 is not very much and if you're boiling fluid in a Tacoma without a trailer, you are either being way to aggressive and/or riding the brakes, are crazy overloaded, or you have a mechanical problem.

Either way, an extra inch or two on the drums won't fix boiling fluid.

Wagner drums. They don't perform any better than OE but has a black E-coat on non-friction surfaces to prevent rusting.

And Toyota ignores all this and puts drum brakes in Tacomas because they are $5 cheaper per vehicle. :cookiemonster: Meanwhile 4Runners and Land Cruisers get discs because they are priced higher.

Since were battling misinformation and wonky perspectives, would you mind posting the itemized production costs of Toyota’s production caliper suppliers alongside the drum specs?

Install those rear discs, make sure to get slotted/drilled rotors on all four corners also, and paint your calipers red.

Add a wing, a spoon sticker, and k swap it. Then you’d be right back to square one before you bought a Toyota pickup.
