Hey y’all I don’t use this forum a lot but I just had a problem with my Tacoma and I want advice from y’all on what it could be. I’ve noticed this morning that when I was going around 50 mph my truck started to hesitate and I guess kick back in a way. When I got to my house my left rear tire was just pouring smoke. I recently had to replace my rear axle bearing and my buddy thought it could the bearing messing up again but I’m thinking the rear drum brake springs locked up or something. I wanted to bring up with y’all though cause y’all know more than me most likely if you can help out I’d really appreciate it

Seems kind of hard to believe it could smoke with out oil on them. Wouldn't it lock up?

When it was smoking, did it smell like brakes or oil...

Not enough to have a build thread.
The only way to know for sure is to tear back into it. If it wasnt noisy or anything I'd tend to say the brakes were over adjusted or grabbing for some reason.

Dragging brakes will smoke (and eventually burn) if they're dragging bad enough.

Thanks for the responses and sorry for the long response but I took it completely apart and turns out my axle seal and wheel bearing broke which let oil into the drum and caused the pads to swell and rub against the drum 24/7 which caused the smoke. I’m in the process of fixing all of it but that wheel bearing a huge pain hopefully I can get it

There is a really good video here by Timmah! that addresses a new design mis match.

I’ll be sure to check the breather I’m pretty positive that the bearing is oem and it was making a grinding noise but that was after I noticed there was a problem the bearing is stuck on the axle and not wanting to come off. And what’s the video about by timmah? If that would help my situation that’d be helpful
