Honestly, 1100 is a fair price at least in CA I'm not sure about those rates in Denver. but coming from a technician, I would've definitely cleaned and re-evaluated before paying. Not too common at that mileage at least for older Tacomas, I see at the shop.

It’s a 1-piece seal, meaning trans has to be removed. I don’t see $1100 as an unfair price for that. Though ideally if it ever happens to me I’ll be in a convenient enough time and place to be able to do it myself and knock out a clutch refresh at the same time. Thankfully being a 1-piece seal it’s significantly less likely to leak than motors with 2-piece seals.

The rear main seal went out at 93k on my taco. I was quoted about 1800 but was able to get them to cover it under the extended warranty.

Yup. Not cheap, but several quoted similar prices.

I didn't think 1000$ was unfair either. Lot of work to do that repair.

I bet there are a lot of leaky ones out there the owners just don't notice or don't care. Park the truck out in the gravel so the oil doesn't stain the driveway and add a quart between changes.

80? You do that speed here and you'l eventually get a ticket. 65 mph is out top speed limit, 55 in some sections. Even at 80 mph these trucks shouldn't be running high rpm.

70-75 mph is pretty standard in most of the US, even 85 in some places. With that being the "posted" limit, 5-10mph above that is a pretty standard traffic flow. While these trucks shouldn't stay at a high RPM running 80mph, most do, because of the erratic shifting between 4th/5th and never seeing 6th gear.

Mine does 6th all the time on the high way, 5th on hills, only drops to 4th when I'm trying to pass as it should. Even driving up mountains it spends most of its time in 5th.

You're one of the lucky few, according to the daily posts around here about stock truck tunes/trans issues. Mine sucks, but it also has tons of extra weight, so its to be expected.

70 is the speed limit here with 75-80 being the flow of traffic. You get out of town and it’s 80..lol. You pair that with a headwind and you got some revs comin in.

Idk what type of roads or taco's you guys are driving, but i've done 75 mph often while staying within 10 over the speed limit with cruise on. I don't get all this crazy shifting at those speeds you mention...thats weird. My truck stays in 6th running a bit over 2k rpm and never moves.

Basically the same with mine. It has to be a decent grade on the highway that the truck will downshift to 5th at 70 mph which is pretty rare. I never see 4th, only if towing something up a long hill. Its 5th otherwise.

Only goes to 4th when I'm given it the beans for some reason, passing entrance ramps merging that sort of thing.

I have 265/70 16 goodyear adventure tires on my sr5 taco. They were new, originally meant for my 2001 tundra, but i sold the truck, and kept the tires. A buddy had something very similar on his 2019 trd at the time i got my truck. His truck never performed like mine did, and it drove him crazy that he traded it for a new frontier. I'm telling you toyota needs to get their act together on making these trucks run more similar to each other. Some run well, and others are a pooch.

Mine immediately drops to 4th whenever I hit the least bit of an incline. It really needs an 8spd transmission like the competition has. You don't realize this until you drive a ranger or a colorado and see how much better the engine/transmission work together. Now if it was like the "old days" when your pickup truck had a torquey v8 it would be different but this engine needs more gears to work well.

Thats basicallly how a buddies 2019 trd tacoma was when we took his truck fishing. It was sluggest, and gear hunted at the slightest incline. I don't get any of that. My taco drives very similar as my tundra. It has enough torque that i'm very satisfied. There's no lag in the skinny petal as a buddies truck was....the input is very linear when i step on the petal. Push it to the floor it makes my old v8 tundra slow.
