Pull your rear wheel, pull the drum off, spray with brake clean, lube all contact points with a non drying anti-squeak brake lube, I like the 3m product.

You are in a state with little to no salt use. Moisture from the road gets into the brakes and freezes up, causing the assembly to jam into position. Since the brake pressure is hydrolic, it ovetcomes the resistance... the internal return springs don't have enough to return it so the brake stays "on. "

Hummmm something like this happened to my friends Tundra. We thought it was the ABS or traction control acting up. It was a few years ago I can't remember what happened other than we still ran the trail and it worked fine after he drove a bit.

I really appreciate this suggestions to get the brake loose. But. What’s to prevent this from happening again?

    I concur
We got 45 seconds of bb sized hail today. It was rugged I drove in 4hi all the way home and didn't use the e-brake when I parked

Ridiculous they can't fix it right after four tries??

I hate to say it cause I have no issues with drum brakes, they work good but there might not be any techs familiar or experienced in this sophisticated technology...It may be time to go all disc now :anonymous:

Hail? Scares the hail out of me- saw a truck that went through a big hail storm in Oklahoma, looked like hail. The guy had it out here in California, said people asked him if it was in a riot or something. Looked like a bunch of people hit it with baseball bats.

I’m on my 4th Toyota up here in Alaska and I’ve used the parking brake on each of them every time I park. Never ever have I had a brake freeze. There’s something wrong with your truck. Check the boot around the cable where it goes into the drum.

So I guess if you had a locker you could engage it and it would break it free?

Maybe there’s a thaw/freeze cycle required for the drums to freeze up. Quite a few people have reported this problem, maybe its just too cold and your truck may be missing that part of the equation?

my truck did this when it was newer and I figured it to be the e-brake cable hadn't stretched yet so it was sticking a little. I would set the brake tight for about a week and cycle it a few times to try and stretch it out a little.

I'm in Kodiak. Same, no issue here. It's gotten down to the 20s not 10 yet.

I don’t think this is supposed to be happening, at all.

Trucks getting towed today. I’ll get it looked at, again.

I’ve already reached out to a lawyer.

This situation significantly affects the value and use of the truck. And it’s not safe.
