I have a 2013 Tacoma, yesterday I closed the rear passenger door and the small rear sliding window just exploded? Has anyone had this happen? The truck is still under warranty and I called the dealer about it and they sounded skeptical. The window clearly should not shatter just from closing the door under normal force and this must be a defect. Any thoughts or similar experiences out there?

    Thanks in advance,
    Dennis

    pressure buildup in the cab?

Have the dealer check the cab exhaust vent at the back of the cab.

Could still be a combination of pressure and a small defect. When you turn on the blower fan full blast using outside air while the windows are closed do your ears pop?

Didn't know there was a cab exhaust. I am taking it to the dealer tomorrow but Im not very confident they will repair it under warranty but they should.

I dont think I have ever used outside air but it can be difficult to get the last door to close because its very air tight

As previously mentioned, there is a pressure relief damper in the back of the cab. It's between the cab, and bed. It's primary function is to alleviate overpressure in the cab. You should see it open when the door closes. It sounds like it might not be opening.

If you get enough pressure to blow up a sliding glass.... Well no I'm not buying into that fantasy.
I also wouldn't blame the dealer for not replacing it under warranty either. I wouldn't if I was a dealer. That is the purpose of insurance.

It is possible they may good will it, but I have serious doubts.

I am not saying that you are lying, but on a 2013 if there had been a defect it would have shown itself long before now IMO.

Did you have to use any force to close it? The track could have a kink in it and when pressed shut it could have put enough pressure on the glass to break.

A few years ago I had an old used and abused work truck for the mine I worked at, loved it. But one day while rolling up the manually adjusted driver side window I had to use more force to turn the knob to get the window up (I blamed night shift ;) ) anyway, while sitting in a cooler area of the mine the window just shattered with me sitting there doing paper work, scared the hell out of me. So I believe that a window can just blow but not without some outside force.
