so eventually I want to go to a 3.5+ long travel. I was wondering what rear axle would be best for this setup. I don't think having 7 inches of spacer would be smart so I was wondering if anyone knew how much wider a tundra axle is compared to the Tacoma.

According to Toyota's website the track of the Tundra is 67.9" wide and the Tacoma is about 63". I could always measure WMS-WMS on my Tundra's rear axle if you're interested. The 10.5" axle that Toyota puts behind the 5.7L is massive and even stronger with an ARB installed in it.

Thanks for the info, don't go out of your ways to measure the wms. Are you running this axle on your taco?

No Taco for me, just a 2008 Regular Cab Tundra. Here are some miscellaneous things that come to mind with these axles:

-Stock gears with the 10.5" differential are 4.30 and the only aftermarket ratio I know of are 4.88s. With the V8 and 34" (LT285/75R18) tires 4.30 is a great ratio; with a V6 it may be worth going deeper.
-The disc brakes are massive and require at least 17" wheels. It also takes a lot more fluid to move these pistons so you may need a new master cylinder as well.
-Since it's a Toyota axle the wheel speed sensors should be the same.
-Tundras with the 4.6L show up with a 9.5" rear end and 3.90 gears.
-5x150mm bolt pattern instead of 6x5.5, so wheel choices will be reduced.
-I don't think that the spindles are the same, but perhaps the front hub/bearing assembly will attach to a Tacoma spindle anyway? I really don't know.
-The pinion flange sticks out a lot further so whatever driveshaft you have now will not work. Perhaps you could dump the two-piece shaft for a single shaft without the stupid carrier bearing? My Tundra runs fine with a one-piece shaft.

Those are a few things to keep in mind but I'm sure that there's more. I know that a few TW members have put some Tundra axles under their Tacomas so hopefully they can give you some advice, though I'm not certain who they are.
