I looked in the rear view window and realized my sliding rear window latch was broken today.

    The is part was loose:

It is glued to the window and attaches with two screws. I could see there was some plastic in the screw threads where they pulled out.

I was able to replace it and the screws held OK. I'm sure it won't last like this though.

This is the part in place - sorry about the poor light:

I don't think there's a way to replace the part where the screws attach (which is the part that is stripped) but that would be the correct fix.

If anyone has dealt with this before please let me know how you handled it.

Regardless I need to get some adhesive on to stick this part back to the glass. I'm not sure what type of adhesive would work best.

I searched, but only a couple of other mentions of this. Nothing specific on a fix.

    Thanks

    TL

This happened to my truck too. I ended up getting some really good double sided tape and putting it back in, and then getting the tiniest bit bigger screws. So far it's held a few months without any problem. Though I can't imagine it'll do too well now that it's getting warmer. Sucks though, I feel like I'm driving a Chevy; the engine runs great but little trim pieces fall off.

Thanks. I was thinking of bigger screws too. Any idea what size screws you used or where you got them?

I was bummed and my truck is 5yr old this month. You have a 2010 - that sucks.

I'm going to see if I can get a similar, but slightly larger screw and some more adhesive.

Anyone know what type of adhesive/epoxy would be best to adhere this to the glass?

    Thanks

this happened to me recently. What bothers me the most about this is that even though I have an alarm system, THIS is pretty much the "open" door for ANYONE to get in and meddle.

I have yet to find a fix too, which is making me a little uneasy (I have been re screwing the trim piece back on ...).

Mine broke as well, still broken off. I have the power rear window from BenWA installed and he suggested use some good strong epoxy or glue and just stick it back on. Screws ripped out on mine as well.

any recs on an epoxy/glue? I looked at the 3M double sided tape I have, it's WAYY too thick for me to use  also on the upper and lower parts, it looks like they used some weather tape stuff ... I think I have seen some at the 99 cent store, not sure if it's worth use though.

Ya know, I just put the same screws back in and it has held up OK. No more adhesive either. I am much more gentle about how I open and close the window now - and I realize it is just a matter of time before I need to do something more, but so far...

mine is shot period. at first I thought it was my bass (was a little happy lol), but then when I tested it (closing it normally), the second time closing it, the screws wouldn't hold at all. Basically would go along with the windows closing direction. As of now I keep it closed ... but would be nice if I could open it from time to time.:(

Check your local hardware store I believe they make two part epoxy for glass and plastic that stuff is strong as cement.

any brand in particular that I should be looking for? I have seen those both at the auto store and local hardware, but some stock the same as the auto store with the exception of their other brands that they stock, not sure what will work (don't want to go around w/trial and error usage).

Same thing happened to me. Replace sticky stuff with double sided tape. Has held well for a while. Sorry to hear this is a somewhat common problem.

just got some 3M double sided tape from my older brother. apparently they have this stuff at the 99 cent store now lol. He gave me the one that has 2 sheets of 4 cubes. Removed all the excess/left over w/e they used, alcohol where I needed to and applied. Hope it holds up (just finished installing).
