Even if the oil change is free.
Discovered this 600 miles into my multi day trip

Now my Maint required light is on. I have replaced the cap (they still had it at the shop) and scanned the computer which says there are no error codes. And yes I checked that the gas cap we firmly in place

    Any thoughts

Yes. If you were 600 miles into a trip, how did you get the cap that they still had at the shop? Or did you buy a new one and called them about the missing cap?

Maintenance required light doesn't have anything to do with the cap missing. It's merely a mileage counter from when the last time it was reset.

I think you click over to trip B and hold it in until you see all zeros and it will reset it. But it's it has nothing to do with a missing cap.

Newer second gens were Trip A I believe, older, used ODO. Not sure which year changed over. Consult with your owner's manual for proper setting.

Go to trip A or ODO (see manual)
    Turn key to off
While pressing in the trip reset button, turn key to ON w/o starting the truck.
Lights will blink then release when you see zeros.

I hope you went back to confront the tech listed on your service order to inquire how that is even possible.

It's the thought that counts, right? :D

I'll even go a step further, I'm feeling good today

Also if anything, I bet you sucked in a little extra dust/dirt into your oil. Ideally the filter should clean that out, but I think they shop might owe you a new oil change.

It's Trip A. Press it down before you turn the key to ignition on position. Hold it until you see the 5 or 6 - - - marks disappear and complete then it will go back to odometer. Done.

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
I think I'm missing something... How did you check it was "firmly in place" but... it wasn't there 600mi ago? Why is this the dealer's fault?

This happened to me years ago on my 2000 Frontier. The last time a dealer changed my oil.
