As said your oil cap missing has 0 to do with the maintenance light being on. (Or even a CEL for that matter) The same kid that fumbled the cap just didn't reset the maintenance light.

A loose gas cap can cause a CEL, but not a maintenance light. Checking it was fine, but unneeded.

Have you checked your oil (looked at dipstick) to see if it was actually changed? If it's dark you have another issue.

If it was changed I'd give the Svs Mgr a call and ask to add a free change back in your schedule for your trouble. I'd not be concerned over the condition of the current oil.

Then bust out the owners manual and learn what the flashing maintenance light means, the steady maintenance light means, and how to reset the light. It should all be there.

Shit like this is why i brought my torque wrench and shitty clothes when i picked up my truck when they replaced the leaf springs under warranty and checked every freaking nut right there in the main service drop off (only reason id let them touch my truck). Head service guy looked at me in disgust and actually stated "what you dont trust our work". My response NOPE not one bit, i dont trust it as far as i could throw this truck. Here have a look, as i torqued a lugnut to a proper 85 ftlbs that MIGHT of had 20 on it. He just walked away.

Same here - I'm the only guy I can afford lol. The recall matter reinforced my feelings that I'm still the best deal in town. :p

The head service guy does not like me there as i called him out on all of his shit. At one point i brought my own tools (angle finder) because he ordered the wrong one and spent an hour with him under my own truck on his lift in his service bay explaining the driveline vibration tsb to him.... this is THE HEAD service guy. I then highlighted and circled the parts necessary to complete the job and he ordered the wrong leaf springs. Needless to say i was NOT happy and will NEVER go back to that dealer unless its to bend them over the table on the purchase of another vehicle.

    I'm sure you're right.
I worked at Lexus back in the day and porters would do minor maintenance/ oil changes in an apprenticeship type program.
Is it still not the responsibility of the tech they are assigned to to do the once over and check their work?
Negligence irks me so I wouldnt hesitate to go down and make some people uncomfortable

I think that was the premise for the most recent SAW movie this fall - Jigsaw the disgruntled car customer - hey it's probably not too far of a reach considering it was like the 100th movie in the series lol.

This reminds me of when I ordered my cruise control stalk cover. I said at least 3 times on the phone, there are two versions of this part, I wan't the one with the hole in it that the cruise control stalk goes through. He confirmed that he knew exactly what I was talking about. When it came in of course it was the one without the hole. To their credit they did get the upper clutch switch right at least.

Coming up on 30K miles on my 2015 TRD Sport 4X4 6MT. Called the local Toyota service departmentfor an estimate for spark plugs, transmission, transfer caSe, front/rear diff, and motor oil change... $660 plus tx. Holy Shit! Think I'll save $500 and do it all myself .

Hmm. What can I do with the $500 I save? Lights? Armor? Dakars? The choices are endless.

I did check the oil its nice and clean and still full. I was just in a hurry to get out of town for my sons wedding and figured its free and how can they mess up a simple oil change.... lesson well learned. I love the fact that the filter is right up on top and will go back to doing it myself.

I audit for the local Auto Mechanics union in Chicago. This post concerns me. I hope the dealers here in Chicago are not doing this.
