Well my tacoma is at 270k and here shortly I'd like to either rebuild it or replace it.
I just want to get some opinions on which way I should go. At that time I will be replacing basically the whole engine bay water pump, fuel rails, fuel pump, etc.

At some point this will thread change from a REBUILD vs New Motor to an actual build thread.
Eventually I'd like to get 18 inch wheels, upgrade my seats, get the interior redone in black, get the car repainted a blizzard or pearl white. My grandpa gave me the truck before he past away so it has more sentimental value than anything else.

I come from compact sport cars so I would assume there isn't much difference, but I also know that my GTR would probably not last 270k either :censored:

Thanks for any advice ahead of time

Rebuild/Replace why? Is the motor bad or just doing it because of high mileage? Mine has over 410k miles and still runs great. All, I've done is basic maint. and fixed some age worn parts here and there. If the motor wasn't trashed in some way I would break it down and just the a refreshing of the internals and call it a day. If the motor is trashed just replace it.

Yota Power! I wouldn't worry about the motor unless it starts giving you trouble. Just maintainence will get you very far, so don't spend a bunch of money rebuilding.

unless you have bad compression (best and probably only real indicator for internal damage aside from blue/dark smoke from exhaust) don't bother with the engine. everything is pretty much running fine internally. if you're having issues, it's due to external issues. timing, fuel injection, ignition system, system management, etc etc. just keep up with routine maintenance, don't let your engine overheat, and you'll do fine!

It did overheat about 4 months back. My radiator went BOOM! I pulled over and poured water into it to keep it cool until I was able to get home. So I drove it maybe another 2 miles then it sat until a new radiator was installed.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I'm going to do the injectors, spark plugs, pumps etc end of this year.

ok. so it overheated. obviously it hasn't siezed. big plus! :woot: . have you noticed any black/white/blue smoke coming form the exhaust? if not then good! almost certain nothing has happened to your engine. just get a compression test to verify everything is ok and you'll be awesome for another few hundred thousand miles :taco:
