How many things can you fix on a Tacoma for $6,000 less than low blue book?

    Low Blue Book is $18,500...

    So I'm now asking $12,500.

Why should anyone consider buying a 2012 truck with a rebuilt title? Naturally the car sales industry wants you to buy new. They don't want any competition from rebuilt cars, so media (dependent on advertising from new car manufacturers) like to warn people away from rebuilt vehicles. And I get it. There are cars that have been flooded with salt water that I would not buy.

But this truck had a simple to fix frame repair.

The truck has the same V6 engine, automatic transmission, transfer case, brakes, interior, body panels, air conditioner, stereo, electrical system and antenna, as every other 2012 Taco... and drives like it is new.

I've seen several people on this forum that have bought brand new trucks to cut them up and do major changes, some good and some not so well thought out, and the truck I'm selling had no more damage than those modified rigs. In fact the only repair is a 16 inch piece of the left rear frame rail, the bumper, and tailgate being replaced.

The truck has been driven with no issues for about 27K miles since repair.

So that out of the way... this is the truck.

    DSC02558_LI (2).jpg

    DSC02560.jpg

This is the original bed panel that I pulled out. Just not enough damage to replace it for what I needed. (edit: the parts replaced were the bumper, the left leaf spring, the tailgate, and about sixteen inches of the left rear frame rail with the spring support.)

The truck is rock solid mechanically but cosmetically imperfect.

It is a 4X4, AC, power windows, stereo, and stock. A blank canvas to modify or use as-is for a daily driver. Located in the middle of Utah. Asking $12,500 and willing to consider cash offers.

I rocked a Subaru with a salvaged title for years, I think it's a great way to save some cash. Good luck with the sale

I don't have any pics of the damage. Never even thought about taking any. The picture of the rear shows the original bed panel that was damaged in the accident.

Salvaged from a hit in the rear that you were able to pull out? Hmmmm.

I’m in Utah, where exactly are you located?

I’d be curious to see the repair on the frame. Also, 4 or 6 cylinder? And auto or manual transmission?

Somebody replied about some states having odd rules about rebuilt titles. They must have deleted their post as I was trying to reply to it, but surely this is a good point to be considered. I have no idea what those rules would be in other states and if anyone is thinkng about inquiring about the truck please check out your local rules and regulations. I'm really expecting to sell the truck locally anyway, but just a heads up on that issue.

That was me. I misread your original post thinking you were asking for pricing advice and pros/cons of rebuilt titles. I didn't realize it was in the buy/sell/trade section and didn't want to muddy up your for sale thread up with my opinion on the subject so I deleted it.

I put the truck on KSL yesterday and got six offers... all from car dealers.

What does that tell me? They like to give low-ball offers so they can sell a vehicle for a lot more to retail buyers.

Had a nice couple come to look at the truck for their college age daughter. The husband liked the truck after inspecting it thoroughly and driving it hard. Pretty sure the wife was concerned about the cosmetic aspects. They'll talk about it.

Will an imperfect appearance, good truck mechanically win out? Or will they buy something glittery with more miles and less reliability?

    I guess we'll see...

I wonder if times have changed due to Covid...

I've sold a lot of vehicles on KSL, and never had the number of calls expressing interest... and then people don't show up when they say they will. Saturday three people were supposed to come over and only one did. It's hard to get people to drive over a hundred miles to look at a vehicle even though they will jump in the truck without a thought in the world about distance if they want to go fishing/hiking/camping. But to say they are coming and then they don't show... that's a new one.

Covid is no excuse for being an inconsiderate scumbag with no regard for peoples' time. Doesn't seem unduly burdensome to simply call & let you know.

The truck goes back on KSL tomorrow at the lower price. Tacoma World gets first crack.

Gotta wonder how the rust belt trucks with long ago replaced frames would stack up against a repaired frame from Utah with no structural rust.

Ha! The guy that came to look at my truck last Saturday called yesterday and asked a couple of questions. I thought he was done.

It turns out his daughter "wants something prettier"... but he has a son... AND he liked the truck so much he's even thinking about it for himself.

No commitments, but he's trying to talk himself into it.
