Just a quick question - I received this wheel from Method with a gouge taken out of the back perimeter. Any cause to question it's effect on strength of the wheel?

For those curious.. I'm planning to powder coating the fake beadlock bolts black (not wheel in question shown, holding off on that one in case it needs to be returned). The bolts have zinc washers on them as well. Do you suppose that using blue loctite can be used in place of the washers? The washers show fron behind the bolt heads but I'd like to avoid paying for those to be powdercoated as well.

I would return it for the simple fact that it should arrive in new condition. It doesn't look like it would be an issue as it is not in the sealing area for the tire. At least if you choose to keep it it will not be visible.

Definitely use it as leverage to get a new rim or if it doesn't bother you, money back. I had a few scratches when mine came in and got a few bucks off and extended the warranty to 3 years.

Contact the manufacturer with a picture of the damage and see what they offer you.

Gonn exchange for peace of mind.

The powder coater suggested using red loctite, and that I could use a heat gun if I theoretically ever needed to repaint or remove them.

Those wheels are made in China,so quality control is not always the best.

Because it wouldn't affect the wheels integrity and it's not visible, I'd try and get a partial refund on the wheel. I'd rather have more money in my pocket than a new wheel where you'll never notice a difference.

Contact them and work on getting a partial refund. Maybe like 10% of what you paid.

Good to know it won't hurt anything. Auto Anything did already give me a deep discount (~22%), but I could see what can be done. If anything, I've got 5 wheels so I can throw it on my tire carrier and chances are it'll never see the ground anyways.

Send it back! Send it back! Send it back!

Thats just unacceptable - those are brand new, not some 2nd hand wheels which someone is only giving you a a 10% discount of what they paid.

What is illegal about the wheel as it sits?

He was refering to the fact that real beadlock wheels aren't street legal.

On a similar note, I was in court once when a kid was in there on a fix it ticket. Some dumb ass cop wrote the kid a ticket because his 5 point racing harness wasn't DOT approved. The kid showed proof that he put OEM seat belts in and got the ticket dropped.
