Still doing my research, but any TW members have suggestions on a good entry level hunting bow? I'm still figuring out a lot of the terminology, parts and what they do. What makes/models should I look at or stay away from?

Many guns but feel I need a bow now.

    Lefty if that matters

I like pse, I have a anthem recurve and an evo, being said I've only ever shot those and my buddies bowtech so I dont have too much to compare. I feel like you cant go wrong with any brand they all seem to be pretty solid.

Really depends what I can get for the money I guess. Would like to be around $300.00 for a complete package with everything I'd need, but if spending a little more money is worth it I'm flexible. I'm thinking used would probably be the way to go but no idea what to look for.

I'll gladly drop that kind of dough on truck or gun stuff but for now I just want something cheaper to get started and I'll go from there. Really just want something I can shoot in the yard and take deer hunting a couple times a year.

You will get a hundred different opinions here. Go to a reputable bow shop and shoot several different bows. Most bow shops also have fairly new used bows too. Find one that feels good to you and you’ll be ready to go. Good luck and happy hunting!!

measure yourself first. you need to know your drawlength. ball park, measure your wingspan and divide by 2.5

I used to have a Parker that I loved and I was dead accurate with.
I sold it and got a Diamond because it had a higher weight range and had the cool parallel limbs. I regret it because I've never been accurate with that bow as much as I was with my other.

I recommend that you buy a bow where you are on the high range of the draw weight, not the low. Being on the lower range will mess with accuracy and FPS. Bows perform the bast at their max draw weight.

Test out many bows and find the one that fits best with you. Don't buy it because it looks cool or because of a name brand. Buy it because it fits you.

Lots of good info thanks! Only place local to me that has bows is closed on the days I have off, will get in there at some point. Looks like I need a 60"-62" draw length.

    no..youre doing the math wrong.

bows max out for the most part at 31" draw lengths. the longer the draw length, the fast the bow shoots. but dont worry about that for now. accuracy all hinges on a bow that fits you.

another way is to pretend your drawing and measure from the palm of your hand to your chin.

Lol no my arms are just realllllly long

No I worded that poorly. I meant that's my measurement and need the corresponding draw length, so 23"-24"

compound bows come in two flavors (being super general here)

there are speed bows and smooth bows. yes, the lines do cross sometimes. as i have gotten older, i like a smooth bow. i like one that is easy to hold a full draw. some bows have this very short "Valley" and the bow wants to pull the string out of my hands when i settle into my anchor point. i find these types of bows difficult to let down. for example, a deer presents a shot, i go to full draw..and he steps behind a branch..if i have to let down, i want to let down..smoooth to hopefully not alert him with some herky-jerky motion and noise.

second, i now like a bow that is easy to tune. i have gotten lazy.

thanksfully, i believe i am moving into a new chapter of my life. more rifle hunts, and way more fishing. i am actually losing interest in bow-hunting.

For your budget you need to get on Archerytalk and get a good used bow. Look at elites. I’ve seen new elites rituals for 500. If you can find that. Buy that.

mission are the best entry level bow.
